    GPA's

Do you hunt on a GPA? Has it suddenly changed for the worse over the past two seasons? Am I crazy to think that they are being farmed for profit? Where is the money going? Why would GF&P destroy pheasant habitat? What is going on? Does anyone know or care? Example: I hunt pheasants on a GPA...

Ever feel guilty for shooting a rooster?

Seriously, I'm not sure I can do it. This year in NW Iowa and SE South Dakota just seeing a bird is a rare privilege. How can I shoot one?

    Grass awn

I am really worried that my dog has a grass awn in her nose. Please share your experience/advice. Can anyone recommend a vet in Sioux Falls,SD that would be skilled in the use of a fiber optic scope for looking in a dogs nose.

    If I were hungry?

I would shoot an autoloader. Today I jumped the bachelor band, 5 roosters in gun range, and I got one bird. The first bird was straightaway low over the slew and I whiffed, the second bird was a 747 and I toasted it. The next 3 flushed all within 15 yards and I watched them sail across the...

    Letter of the Law

I have permission to hunt on a lot of land from either the owner or the renter/operator but not always both. Is Iowa Law clear about granting hunting privileges/rights. Please help me.

    Concerning Ratio

Cleaned 6 birds from SE SD so far this season (averaging 2 birds per hunt). 3 were first year birds and 3 were second year birds, small sample size, but it kinda confirms a weak hatch.

    2 bird per day limit

I think Iowa should copy Minnesota and go to a two bird per day limit. This will not affect the long term population in any way, but would more evenly and fairly distribute the harvest between hunters. What do you guys think?

    Ufo

Live wild rooster sighting in Iowa. My retired hunting buddy who helps with the harvest saw 5 roosters together. All the other men out harvesting that I "interviewed" have not seen a bird.....scary.

    Benelli Ultralight

Great report. My father-in-law and I tried out his new gun yesterday. He thinks its magic. We shot hand clays, and without a doubt it was the best he has ever shot, even at age 56 and after L rotator cuff surgery this winter. The suprised grin on his his face was priceless. Picture a man getting...

    Zoli

Anybody familiar with the A. Zoli Z Extra Game. Used ones for $3200 to $5700. Really nice wood. Are they all looks? Do they have a Boss action? What's so good about them? I have to confess my weakness for all things Italian.

    271,126

The 2009 Iowa pheasant harvest was 271,126 the lowest ever recorded and 100,000 below 2008. This number is reported by the DNR based on post season hunter surveys. Unfortunately the harsh winter of 2009-2010 means the harvest this fall will be even lower.

    The Hatch Doesn't Matter.

Today being June 7, which in my region is probably the peak of the hatch, any avid pheasant hunters thoughts should turn toward pheasant chicks. Yes, of course the hatch matters, because if no chicks hatch their will not be many roosters to shoot this fall. My point is, the hatch is a minor...
