Advice on dog box

I've made up my mind and finally have a little extra money in order to get a nice dog box with top storage. I really like the Owens-Pro boxes, the problem is I can't decide between the two or three hole boxes. The three hole box seems to be pretty narrow (16 inches) across and I'm not sure a good sized dog would be comfortable in one. I thought about the two hole
(24 inches) and getting a deeper box so you could stick multiple dogs in each side. Any advice or thoughts? Thanks
 
i see the bittercreek at shows down here in okc &when i get the money i am getting 1 also,they are the best you can get
 
Ainley, and Mountain top make very nice boxes. There is some two and 3 hole boxes out there used if you google. Crow River is the nicest I would say if you can find one. They built great product, and the craftsmenship was awsome.
 
and anybody who is handy with a tape measure and skill saw can make a custom dog box to fit any vehicle- out of cheap ole plywood-
 
not a very good venture everybody wants something for nothing or they just want the same boxes as everyone else has no one wants a custom box specifically made for them

I built a 2 hole box out of plywood and I really like it. The compartments are 24" x 32" and the box will fit in my tahoe. I can fit 4 dogs. A scrawny golden and a small setter on one side and a 45 lb springer and a 45 lb setter on the other.
 
I didnt mention but i was able to fit 4 GSP in here on a trip out west this year and they all had plenty of room.
 
wood boxes are great if you put them inside a vehicle but they tend to rot eventually thats why i build my own ouot of aluminum and they look classy instead of plain ol wood
 
no not yeet but i can make 1 at anytime if peaple are intersted in them i could draw 1 up and have sketches but due to them bieng custom I cant build 1 without someone wanting it and the material is expensive also
 
Gsp, check out Craigslist and see what's in your neighborhood before going with new. You might save some money and end up buying more of a box than you would new.
 
If I had the money to spare, I'd have GCB build me one; for 3 reasons...

1.) It's made in America.

2.) It's made by a fellow Kansan.

3.) It's made by a fellow pheasant hunter, and skilled craftsman.

This may not be helpful advice, :rolleyes:, but I have trained all my dogs to read the WIHA map and navigate while I drive. I let 'em ride in the cab so they can tell me where to turn and how many miles to the next spot.:thumbsup:
 
I bought a real nice two dog top storage one on Craigslist for $25, you have to check dailey as the good deals go fast but they are out there. I called within 20 minutes after it was listed and it took me an hour to get where it was and he had 40 calls in that hour. I missed out on some nice ones that were cheaper than that. Craiglist has a state wide search now so you can search every city in the state so it makes it pretty easy. Missed out on a nice fiberglass 4 hole factory made dog trailer for $100. The guy just wanted to get rid of it and he paid $2,000 for it new. Good deals are out there if you have time to look.

I have seen a ton of them on the net. I used to do the build your own too. Ya know it would also take a few hun at least to do that and have a nice box. If you want to really do a nice box you could have 700 in wood. Then as a carpenter, I know to do a quality job it takes time. Unless your just slapping something togeather. I had dogs chew on my wood all the time. Never again. My time is worth something too. So if I stick a 100 hrs in it as you may screwing around here and there, top storage, sanding staining sealing painting, double wall insulated, and what ever else you dream up. You now have just as much money in this as a nice Stainless or Aluminum. I personaly like Stainless at least lined. It stays so clean. It is easy to rinse out and sanatize. After years it will pay off just in hassel. And it will out last 10 of those wooden boxes if you get a well built box.:thumbsup: Seemed I would build a new wood box every few years, unless you don't use them. If you go a few times and keep it garage stored or something ,sure it will last.
