Advice on dog box

no not at all it just seems to me that anytime any disagrees with your way of thinking then you automatically get on the defensive

why- because I've put up a couple pictures with words-
I thought the picture of the handmade wooden dog house with mine looked pretty nice-

the handmade dog box with one inside and one laying down waiting looked fitting

since the comment was something to the effect of no good rotten wood

was I offensive in putting up a picture of 4 Britt's locked up on wild pheasants and added the words to sort of put the picture in perspective

I own a business, could make and offer things for sale- some could use the things I build- I don't try to sell them on a forum

sort of wonder if you aren't attacking me

first i'm not particularly trying to sell these things on here i have other means of advertisement second i like you doghouse looks nice dont understand the 2 holes on either side methode but it looks good third i am not attacking anyone unless attacked first kinda like our disgruntlement about my dogs and yours wether you use wood or not i dont care some peaple like wood some don't some like steel or aluminum some don't hell i've seen alot of things made into boxes old dryers air conditioner housing none of it really matters its all personal preference

i was just wondering how do you like the smell of the dogs on a wet day inside your car? i personally hate that but whatever though

That's why I like the pickup with camper shell. Dogs are still out of the elements, but I don't have to worry about the smell, mud, etc.

I "upgrade" from the o' plywood a little over a year ago. Got me one of them fancy diamond plated, insulated, top storage, "Diamond Deluxe" two door "Houndsmen" models.46"x46".

I can haul two 70 pound labs in each side. The only thing that "I" would change, woud be add 2"-4" height. I built a custom compartment for the storage space. Individual compartments for boxes of shells, one compartment to fit my collar box, and one custom fit for food/water pans, ect. I like it, my dogs love it.
I don't show up driving a 1965 chevy with one tailight hanging out of the socket, an exhaust leak, and one cylinder missing. Why should I expect my companions to crawl out of a plywood crate...;)

Thanks pointer. My problem, I'm "short". Everytime I needed something out of te storage, it had drifted all the way to the front of the box. I was climbing in and out of the bed more than the dogs were. Now the things that I use often are in reach from the ground :)

Well..... here's a picture of the box that I 'upgraded' from. I used it for almost 10 years. It was well constructed and wasn't THAT ugly in the beginning, even though it was built by a farmer/rancher and not by a cabinet maker. One of my boys is still using it. A couple sheets of new ply' and a gallon of paint would do it wonders.

A wood dog box will last a long time under a topper.

My issue with wood is with dogs chewing it....all do not know to respect the owner's craftmanship.

you mean the pic above gove there now that truely is craftmanship cmon old dude knows were teasing him on here lol

I have seen dog boxes from wood that rival anything made in metal, for looks and craftmanship...not from me tho.:)

there not even in the same hemisphere dude please get out of the early 80s looks i guarantee!anyway im done with this thread i might as well go hunting with a single shot 410.

Its not the dog box in the fight but the fight in the dog box. GREAT PICTURE reminds me when I was a kid and A VW was my 4x4 had a great time useing it.

Certainly... "NO offense" taken.. :) But I think it vividly illustrates "why" I'm so happy with the 'upgrade' too..:p
The box does have that 'outhouse' look now that you mentioned it. :D But in my own defense, it IS ten years old,(at least) and has never been stored out of the weather.... It was never ..purdy.... but it served it's purpose for a good long time.

I couldn't agree more with those statements about "craftsmen".. be it wood, metals, a paintbrush, errr what ever... adds beauty to functionality..

If I was just getting around hunting with a dog or two, I would whip a nice wooden box up. But all the travel and dogs going to trials etc, I need water tank, and room. I need to clean it offten, hose it out etc. So wood just won't last for me any more. Pet porters work fine too. I am using them untill the right box pops up. I need Stainless or some thing on that order just for durability, and cleaning ease. I know a pro Trainer in NY that rolled his truck with a Crow River topper on and it crushed the cab at an angle smashing the front roof down to the dash and the rear roof still full height. The Box saved him, not a scratch on the box, thats how tough they are. He still has it on and using it. You would never know if he did not tell you. A wooden topper would have been tooth picks and him maybe dead.

I have a three dog Mullins Custom Dog box. It has held full size GSP's as well as Brits and English ponters. They have plenty of room to go in and turn around. They stay plenty warm and dry in any weather too. Has excellent vents also. It has a big top storage with room for about one of everything. I've had it for years and used it in some pretty miserable conditions and it dosen't show any sign of wear, rust, or rot. Love that box. Check them out. Great product.
