Advice on dog box

I have a three dog Mullins Custom Dog box. It has held full size GSP's as well as Brits and English ponters. They have plenty of room to go in and turn around. They stay plenty warm and dry in any weather too. Has excellent vents also. It has a big top storage with room for about one of everything. I've had it for years and used it in some pretty miserable conditions and it dosen't show any sign of wear, rust, or rot. Love that box. Check them out. Great product.

Never heard of them, any info where web etc.

Funny you should ask. I just found out through a little research that the Mullins family isn't making them any more. I believe the Gentleman's name was Percy Mullins. I did find a web site that has his exact boxes on it though. Not sure if this company bought him out or what. Look up evanscustomdogboxes.com . He has several pictures of the Mullins box on his wedsite. I can't say it enough, Tough, warm, well ventilated, good storeage. Love mine. Good luck.

I ran across Percy's grandson, he has the blueprints and is making them in SW Michigan. I think a saw him on EBay.
I am going to get a patroit dog box. check them out, all aluminum, insulated, light weight. www.patriotdogboxes.com

A Aluminum box left in direct sun lite can be very dangerous as they become a solar oven. A plastic box with a Insulation cover may be safer.

False. I had no trouble with my Crow river. I had a thermometer in there and it was colder inside when in the sun, then out side.

I've mulled this over myself. I thought about getting a box for the back of my truck but have decided to go with a cover. I can keep everything in out of the rain, locked and secure. Going to cost more for a nice FG cover but if on a budget I think a guy could find a nice pre-owned aluminum one for the price of a new dog box.

I don't believe that is true, from everything I've read on insulated boxes it is cooler in the box then the outside temp on a hot day. www.patriotdogboxes.com has a good section:

http://patriotdogboxes.com/Insulation Test.htm
I was talking about un or poorly ALUMINUM insulated boxs. As aluminum well heat up much faster in direct sun light than other materials. In there test They forgot to add the DOG! " bodie temperature" The white well reflect heat better. But in HOT weather its really more important to shed heat fans,ac,vents, shade est. Than the amount of insulation! You need to becarefull in hot weather.

Wow, this thread has been entertaining! :D

I had an Owens Hunter series two hole box that I bought at Cabelas. It didn't have any storage on the top or the bottom and the only insulation it had was blue corrugated plastic cardboard.
I liked the box because it was light enough for me to move by myself but it had it's problems as well.
I put a digital remote thermometer in box so I could keep track of the temps in the summer and winter. That box was cold!. I put prairie hay down in the box and left my GSP in it one night when we couldn't take her into the motel. When it was closed up tight it only got up to 32* F in that box. It was cold, -5*F but I felt bad about her having to be outside in that cold of weather. I ended up sneaking her into the motel, got caught and evicted in the middle of the night but that's another story.

I traded that box off and bought a Deer Creek Houndsman series box. It's well built and well insulated, keeps the dogs warm in the winter, cool in the summer and has top storage. I couldn't be happier with it except that's it really heavy. It's a two man job to move it from one truck to another or take it out for storage.

I'd like to have a box that I could move by myself but I don't know if that is an option to keep three dogs warm and protected.

Deer skin is one of the nice products. Yep there all heavy when you get quality like yours. The only option is some plastic things, and they will never last like that one you have. I found what works well is those rope hoists and eye hooks mounted on the box. My CR was 300lbs too. But this way I could back in the garage and it was out in a minute with no lifting. Then I lower it down on casters and roll it where ever.
