Same Dog Less One Eye

Gus the Brittany came home from the vet today less his blind, damaged eye. Same dog as before as if nothing had happened. Pulled me out to the car and hopped into the crate tail waging. Dogs are amazing.

It is arguable as to which is the most admirable trait of a dog, but top in consideration is their life philosophy that:

"Life is what it is."

Much tougher for humans to accept such a dramatic change.

Great news. Best wishes.

Thanks for the nice posts. All is well.

Sorry to hear about this. I would hope that in time you will continue to hunt with the dog and would be very interested in any future posts of the progress in hunting with the dog in the field. I think you will be surprised as to how little this will impead his desire to please.

Thank you. Actually, we hunted our regular schedule for both the 2011-12 season when he was shot opening day, through last season, and we are ready to go this season. He never lost a step although I was worried.

BC. My Daisy girl lost sight in her left eye in a car accident when she was just a pup. She never skipped a beat and it hasn't bothered her a bit.

My Dog also lost an eye last month, at first thought it was Uvieitis but test after test could not find a cause. Traveled to a canine ophthalmologist and he discovered a tumor in the eye. Eye gone, spirits high, and he can still pick off a frisbee at 25 yards. Hunting the one eyed dog this season, we will still have a leg up on my hunting partners two eyed dogs. Headed to SD this season yet again just down one eyeball, that's all!

Like my dog, your dog did not lose a minute of sleep or a step over losing an eye. Have a great season afield.

Great news! I have a buddy with a one-eyed GSP. Dang thing actually may be better now; seems his other skills including smell have improved. Best of luck to your dog.

Very glad the dog is doing well. Have to admire the "It is what it is" attitude.

How, not that it is important I am more curious, did this accident happen?
