Will public be any good in SD this year?

Well said!

On a side note I grew up in your neck of the woods and still have all my family living there. Small world. Born and raised in Mchenry Co.

That is me my freind! My folks sold that house in the late 90's before moving up by the city park. My Dad passed away in 2000.... and My oldest sister passed away this past winter.

I have scouted about 25 public areas in the past month. I hit 6 more yesterday. I have ridden a LOT of miles, mostly on back roads. Ditch hunting will be very scarce. Almost every road had been mowed, and a lot of the public land has been hayed. But, about a third of them still had huntable cover, a third had nothing, and a third still looked pretty good. I have put my shorthair down on about half of the areas, and found birds on a good many. I am finding birds almost every day I run my dog. So birds are here, some good spots are still here, so come on. You may just have to move around a little more this year. You will be glad you came I bet.

Congratulations! My granpa grew up on a farm, hated it and horses, of course this was back at the beginning of the last century. Left when he turned 21 and got a job as a plumbers helper in 1924. Had his own plumbing business and that became the family thing. Overall it has been good, still up and down in this economy.I wish he would have stayed on the farm and had the family thing there, think I would have been happier there than dealing with everybody else's "crap" now. It sure would be great working from home instead of commuting 50 miles one way. So SDJim, I envy you, and think it's great, you've earned it! God Bless You!
PS...GPowers, this give you a clue?

No strippers either, ever.

What? You don't support single-Moms?Probably a Republican.
Now we are dragging politics into this??? I thought this was suppose to be a friendly pheasant hunting forum.
I'm not an authority on this issue but the last time I went into one of those establishments (13 yrs ago), most of them were of the same sex preference... then there is artificial insemenation $$$$$.

My condolences on the loss of your loved ones...we lost my mom in '07 and my older brother 2 years ago. It's not easy.:(

I'm decreasing my budget on ammo and increasing my budget on beer
That doesn't tell us how you voted. So still on for South Dakota?
You need to balance the budget...shoot the cans!:D

Still plan on going! First Trip in oct then we will go from there!

If the doom and gloom is about the same as last year about numbers. They were suppose to be the worst in years and it was probably one of our better years. Not sure if it had to do with luck, getting to fields first or whatever but I will take it either way.

i think most will agree, it won't be about the numbers, it will be all about finding huntable cover.....

Dept of health just called and said my new window does not me egress firecode. Want to come out and put in a new window for me??????

Whats behind your BS???

Doesn't fall under health dept., that's a building and zoning issue. Must not have submitted plans and dimensions when you applied for your building permit. ;)

Not going to SD. Probably never will. Not going to pay anyone ever. Except to train a pup maybe. No strippers either, ever.
What I am going to do is go hunting every year, no matter how many birds. Start hunting around eightish, just me and my dogs, and not stop till dark. Then I am going to eat a good dinner with my buds back at camp, and drink enough beer and whiskey until I can hardly stand. Go to bed. Repeat!

You still gonna hunt till dark if you get your limit by nine? You could start drinking earlier and get a head start on your buds, passed out by noon, crash till four then pick up where they begin. The best of all worlds, living the dream:cheers:
