What a difference a year makes

Wish you guys were getting a little of the rain we have had here in Manhattan.
We have had enough lately the the mosquitos are a problem

We got a whoppin' .18 yesterday evening. Too late for the wheat, too little for the row crops.

We had some rain and small hail last night. We look like Ireland around here it so green.

On the down side I went out and ran Ace tonight. The ticks and mosquitoes were terrible.

It is dry in western Kansas. I'm sitting in a motel in Garden City out here working on terraces on the 2 half sections I bought. I have a windmill running and sat there for an hour tonight and saw 11 hens and 3 roosters along with 3 pair of quail coming for water. There were also lots of doves and all other kinds of birds. I found a clutch of eggs that had hatched but haven't seen any babies. There are tons of old birds around. There is good chance of rain Sat. night maybe we will get lucky. In Anderson County were the home farm is we have had plenty of rain. Hopefully the quail will have a good hatch. I have been seeing quite a few pairs.

For the guys worried about the CRP grazing most of it I have seen in Ness and Finney counties won't be worth grazing or haying there is nothing but old growth there.

What direction from Garden?

It is not good around Garden. I have been all directions out of Garden lately, but it is worse at Liberal.

Here comes the rain. At least now there will be some weeds. The bugs need the weeds and the chicks need the bugs.

We only got .37. It'll help, but if it goes to 101 tomorrow, it could steal it right back. We do need a soaker.

Maynard, do you have any pics of the same fields this year to compare with the thread from last year?

 That would be great. Thanks.

What are the conditions like in Dodge and to the East and Northeast? Sounds like this might be one of the years that we hunt hard all day and have to make the most of the few shots we might get.
