Weather for the opener

Any ideas of what the weather is going to be like for the opener this year? This will be our first time to make the trip up and was curious of what kind of gear to pack. Thanks

The weather for the opener should be hot, cold, rainy, dry, clam, windy, cloudy and sunny. Welcome to South Dakota! :)

Acutally forecasts don't go out that far and wouldn't be accurate anyway. I'd check the National Weather Service web site for the area of SD you will be about a week ahead of the opener. Should give you a pretty good idea.

SD has been very dry this year and there doesn't appear to be much if any moisture in the immediate forecast. If I had to make a WAG I'd say to expect dry conditions and normal temps. Temps with highs in the mid 50's and low's in the low 30's.

highs in the 50's and lows in the 30's would be alright with me. This fatman sweated his arse off last year. Seemed to me it was 70 or so opening weekend. I am coming a week late this year, hope it is cool.

If it's rainy those pen-raised birds huddle under a bush, and make harvesting easier. ;)

That's a good one. Didn't you know the reason you can't hunt up there until 10am is because the trucks dump the pheasants out around 8am everyday, and they want them to have a fighting chance. Best thing is to follow the truck around with your gps.

And that first sentence could be the weather in just one day:)--seriously bring gear for 70-80 and 20-30 and every thing in between--including very dry and very wet---have fun --will be there:cheers::cheers:

Accu Weather says it will be 60 degrees and abundant sunshine. So my excuse is going to be the sun got in my eyes.

We are finally getting some rain in eastern SD. As of this morning Watertown has received about .66". It's not a lot but will at least settle the dust. Along with the rain we have also had a lot of wind. Winds have been 40, 50 and even 60 mph across SD. Suppose to calm down tomorrow but for those that will be hunting next week the wind are suppose to return around mid-week.
