This past fall I had trouble hearing my dog's beeper collar when she was on point. Many times other guys with me would hear it long before me and if I was alone I was screwed. I know my hearing is not what it once was but I'm not to the hearing aid point yet. I was wondering if wearing one of the less expensive Walker Game Ears while in the field would be helpful? Certainly not an expensive option to try. I'm wondering if anyone on the site has had and experience using these devices? Thanks.
 
I have used a game ear. It would likely help, but wind noise can be a problem.
But I think you would do better with a Garmin. I have mine on the strap of my WingWorks vest, I can hear and feel it.
 
Those are less expensive than the one that I had. But I would guess that they would help. It will also help protect your hearing some.

I don't work for them so I can give you an honest opinion. I used them this year for pheasant hunting. I heard every bird flush, but when I used my whistle or shot my gun, the noise was blocked! Amazing results, They are not as expensive as some makers, but a fine product.
I also have some walker game ear muffs, but when you mount the gun they are in the way.

The Wild Ears look nice but I'm not paying a grand for a set. The Walkers for under a hundred fit my wallet better.
 
I have not heard of anyone who has not had problems with wind noise me included.
 
I have decided to forget about, for me, my eyes are less sharp, can't hear, Sex life? major health issues, may be it's better not hear, can't hear the reaper sneeking up on me! Bad news, I mentally feel like a twenty year old still. I saw the trap shooters who we basically deaf, amazing, I never thought hunting shooting would cause it, assumed, wrongly that the constant shooting on the range was the culprit. I do sound the alarm to the youngsters though.
 
FYI...I purchased a pair of Sport Ear Microshot 210 (~$1000) about 18 months ago and tried using them for about a year. During that one year I had to send them back to the factory a total of three times due to major issues. When using them it sound like you are inside of giant tin bucket. The only sounds that seem to be amplified are the sounds close to you...such as walking through the brush...but not so great at a flush 30 yards away. Plus the batteries don't last to long...can be a pain with cold fingers and fading light. All I can say is buyer beware...dont waste your money.
 
That's exactly why I think I'll buy the Walker Game Ear ITC's. I can get them for about $35. If they don't work I'm not out much. I'd rather be out $35 than a grand. :)
 
I know things aren't cheap, but I tried a few different types of ear protection and i always ran into the cost factor. But when my wife began to repeat things twice because I didn't hear what she was trying to say, and the ear doctor told me I have significant hearing loss. That is when I realized that if I want to keep hunting and hearing birds get up, I needed to do something. Small price to pay for being able to hear the rest of my life!
 
I know this thread is a couple of months old but I was wondering if you bought this hearing protection and if so how you like them so far?
 
See my earlier quote about wildear. I bought them a year ago and have used them during pheasant season, deer season and now through sporting clays season. They are the best product out there in my opinion. I purchased them at a local event called Game fair in Ramsey, MN great event and a lot of good products there.
