I shoot in a Summer trap league, but just to keep me tuned up for hunting season. I won my class two years ago, but my best score was 49/50. I haven't had a perfect score yet.
I almost did it this year, as I had gone 47/47, but then I started thinking about how I might get a perfect score and missed the next two before hitting my last target... 48/50 that day. Still an awesome score for a guy like me.
I think it's 100% mental though. If you are focused and have a positive attitude, you will shoot a great score. If you are not "feeling it" that day and are dreading going to shoot your league, you will shoot terribly.
I shoot my hunting shotgun. Beretta Extrema 2 in Max 4 camo. I've had enough guys roll their eyes at me when I pull my gun off the rack that it brings me great joy to outscore guys with trap guns.
Trap is boring and also too serious. I wish we had a sporting clays course in Manhattan. I have to drive to Auburn or Silver Lake if I want to shoot sporting clays, but it is 100X more fun.
Trap feels like going to the driving range, and sporting clays is like playing a round of golf. My .02:thumbsup:
