Ticks

They are so bad this year. Every time I let the dogs run they come back covered in them. I have them on frontline and wash them one a month with flea and tick shampoo but they still have ticks all over them. Anyone else notice this this year?

It's a really good tick year, brown dog ticks, lone stars, deer ticks, all age groups, even seeking out the kennel dogs, overnight!

YES! We've got a serious tick infestation. I thought the past couple of years we had quite a few, but I'm positive there are more this year.

Preventic collars absolutely work. They're about 20.00/each and do not work on fleas. Keep the ticks off for about 3 months. Best and only collar I've seen that really keeps them off.

For some reason we are picking up some of those damn things here. Never had a problem before this year. Picking them up in the taller grasses around the lake. Usually find them in the hills or creek bottoms, but now I know different!!!

the ticks are bad and the mosquitos are terrible around here too. The vernal ponds still have water after that 4" rain we had a couple weeks ago. I thought I was going to get carried away by the skeeters last Friday...

A farmer friend of mine blames this on the deer herds being so large. Not sure I believe it nor am I ready to discount his theory:confused:. I know too many farmers that are so quick to blame everything on wild animal populations, but would never consider the critters they're raising to possibly contribute to any undesirable events:rolleyes:

I say that is pure bull wash:D. I would say we are just in a boom cycle like with rabbits or any other animal. Conditions this year were just right and they exploded. On another note the poison ivy is really taking off this year as well. My three year old has a bad case of it and it just keeps getting worse on her. So watch out for your little ones.

Kinda sounds like it to me too. I'd be more apt to agree w/ your suggestion, but felt I should share his comments w/ the group to get feedback. It seems the ticks have been trending upward for a couple years now. Maybe next year will be the year we have very few.

Too late on the little ones and poison ivy. Both of my boys and my pregnant wife have already got it from our backyard. She went out w/ weed killer and wiped out everything green after that. She typically isn't that way but being 7.5 months pregnant in June gets those hormones a rollin' As long as she doesn't use the spray on me or the boys before the end of the summer we'll make it through fine:D

haven't had a tick 1 all year or lastyear i guess i'm living right and so are the hounds Ivomectin preventative collars and a bath twice a year and no problems :D

ticks wern't to bad this spring,at least where I was at,and haven't had to much problem so far this summer.I spent a lot of time in the woods early, turkey and mushroom hunting, and can only remember 5-10 of the little buggers.
So,you guys keep them bugs up north,ya here?

not too surprising, out in your part of Kansas a tick has to go to a well for water and find a fence post for shade! :D

+1

I will attest to the effectiveness of the Preventic collars. They are probably the best product i've tried that actually do a good job of keeping ticks from actually attaching. Most of the spot-on products (frontline etc.) will kill ticks, but still allow them to attach before doing so.

Only downside as was stated with Preventic is that it won't be effective with fleas. :(
