Tastiest Game Bird

I love eating pheasant. I've had one quail and it has been so long since I had partridge I can't remember what they taste like. I had some sharpies but they don't compare to pheasant. What is the tastiest game bird pheasant, quail, wild chukar, ruffed grouse etc.? It seems like I hear ruffed grouse being the best alot.

Dove, then quail.

Ruffed Grouse are the walleye of the gamebirds.

Pheasants are the trout.

Dove would be like a crappie from cold water.

Woodcock may be the flathead, but when cooked rare they are tasty.

I like Bobs the best, followed by pheasants. Then Doves.
Still need to eat my Praire Chicken, I could not believe how dark the meat was. Looked a lot like liver

My list is in the same order. Never had the pleasure of trying a ruffed grouse.

Good luck w/ that chicken. I don't shoot anymore chickens than I can afford to take to the taxidermist;)

Ruffed Grouse, Doves, then Pheasant works for me.

I had a goal of shooting some over point. Got that done, but never shot an adult male, that I would want to mount. Maybe next September.

I only walked about 20 miles for every PC I got pointed and shot

Never saw or tasted a chicken but if it looks like liver it probably tastes like liver. Here is how grandma prepares our deer heart and liver (family tradition to eat these first).

Slice into thin pieces and soak in milk over night.

Sautee a big batch of onions over medium heat until well carmelized.

Coat liver (or chicken) with flour and fry golden brown.

Serve liver and onions on white bread with mayo.

Now that's some good ol' okie food.

I have shot so many Ruff grouse over the last 40 years, it's pathetic. I'm kind of burnt out on the taste of them. My mom makes the best Pheasant you have ever tasted in your life. Still not the best game bird IMO. Goldeneye makes some fantastic Chukar K-Bob's on the grill. I would rate them Top Notch. I love Teal or Canvasback duck the best in waterfowl.

Never had Quail or Dove.

#1 Upland bird for me..Chukar(Goldeneye style), Pheasant(plucked)browned with cream soup, Ruff Grouse, browned with cream soup. garvy, mashed taters, fresh green beans or corn on the cob.

#1 waterfowl, bacon wrapped jalapeno goose wraps in Italian dressing BBQed on the grill, Roasted Canvasback, Roasted Teal...dressing, gravy, mashed taters, veggies, brown sugar & butter acorn squash and home made peach pie with ice cream. .

Blue Grouse or Dusky are hands down #1. Their #1 favorite diet in the summer...berries!!! They taste like chicken with a hint of berry.

I've never made it but you got me thinking about grilled blue grouse breast with a goose berry glaze. Do you have goose berries in your high country?

I've gotten so few, I don't really trust my memory, but Ruffed Grouse stand out as the best tasting.

I've gotten accustomed to the taste of pheasant.

I would definately put wild chukar at the top of my game bird menu. Maybe because of the revenge factor for putting you through hell to kill them! Scaled quail are pretty dang good too.
