Tastiest Big Game

The best I've ever had has to be moose. I'd rather eat that than the best cow steak. Absolutely wonderful.

Elk. While in Germany I got to taste Hirsch or Rotwild often as its offered in restaurants. Its wild meat taken by hunters as oppossed to the farm raised elk over here. It is sooooo good. There was one Gasthaus that had a hirsch gulasch that was to die for.

again- interesting- our little store here has decided to seek another supplier

18lbs of uncut ribeye slab- $3.99per lb- we're on our 4th chunk-
I slice off 1 1/4" thick pieces, glad wrap/freezer wrap, pull one out- fire up the grill- mesquite charcoal medium rare- like to see you toss on a slice of buffalo that is even half way as tender or tasty-

I went up to Alaska- shot a nice moose- boned it out with help from 4 guys-
don't know what you consider tender- moose is good- great matter of fact- but not nowhere near as tender as good beef

Barren ground Caribou is the most tender wild big game I've ever et- but it's not prime beef class

If my head stone read's..cause of death Prime Rib...it would have been a great life and what a way to go. :10sign:

I've got to say the best is elk (prepared any way)! I had the opportunity to go with my Uncle and learned how to field dress pack it with ice until we could get the bull to the locker. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. He gave me a couple packages of jerky and two roasts. It was the best meat ever! Thank God for family :)

Dakota Zeb's

is right moose is great. Sorry pronghorn sucks, take mine to the processeor and turn them into breakfast sausage. then I can eat them maybe. Bear is good also Elk cow is hard to beat. Bull Elk in the rut can be tough as Hell. I'll take a Moose steak or an Elk steak or back strap of both over anything else.

Black Buck Antelope( Very Good)

Zebra ( Very Good)

Moose ( Very Good)

Whitetail ( very Good)

Elk Backstrap or Tenderloin with fresh Calf frys( Priceless)

Dry Aged Prime Rib ( Priceless)

The key is to Age the meat !!!!

I've heard alot of stories how bad Pronghorn is. Went to Wyoming this last fall, got a two year old buck and doe, cleaned em,skinned em,packed em in ice and got to the butcher..Best eating big game I've had...

Quality of any wild game is most often in the treatment it receives and the luck of the draw.

For meat in general, it is hard to beat bacon you can tie in a knot, a barely medium rare rib steak or, cured country ham.

I've raised my own beef most all my life.
Beef tastes like beef.:)\
Elk tastes like elk.
Deer tastes like deer.
Antelope tastes like antelope and so on.
I've had soooo much wild game.

None matches a good cut of beef or a quality burger. Trust me.

Here and I believed that legend had it, everything tasted like chicken!

Like I said, Dallas Cowboys when it comes to beef. My tombstone will read "Deer, It's Whats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

You know, I use to hunt Elephant but had to quit. The decoys got to heavy:laugh:

Also, you had to buy A1 by the 5 gallon pail

It's been kind of fun to read this thread.
Because we all say the same thing. Hands down the best meat is something you have worked for. whether it be Moose - Elk - deer or beef. (I also raise my own beef.)

and IMO there is nothing like home raised beef

My wife would tell you its the deer she has shot but she earned the right to brag. So as long as we share our meals with family and friends. What the heck

Antelope is great if you take care of it immediately!!! Can't take much heat riding around in the back of a pick-up. You can cut out the loins, split the hind and put the whole thing in a standard sized cooler with ice. I can do it in about 10 minutes or less.

I am most impressed with the number of wild game hunters and eaters who mentioned they would shy away from those big, gnarly trophies in favor of a good-eating youngster or doe. Like Dad always said, the antlers make awful thin soup, son...
;)

Caribou - without question.

Beef tastes good because of the fat. Simple as that. Wild game for the most part is lean. It just doesn't have a ton of fat.

A good venison burger with plenty of fat in it (I prefer pork fat) tastes better to me than any beef hamburger.

I love beef tenderloin (black and blue or basically raw) or rib eye steaks are great. The closest thing in wild game I've had is caribou. Meat actually has marbling.
