Strib article - opening day results

you name the dog breed i seen them out at my hotel this wk-end none of them other breeds of dogs had a groups limit shot over them there was 1 guy with the group of 7-8 that said he shot 2 birds saturday he had a wirehair but there was great dogs out in the area not many had a outstanding hunt they wanted to brag about but maybe it was my dogs fault there was no birds??? the next time you go to a area thats lacking bird numbers blame the dog thats a good idea???

come on guys MN bird numbers are down same as SD there will be plenty of reports of not so good hunts look at the SD threads & the resident SD hunts they are doing horrible in SD as well no need to insinuate my dog was not working the fields or that im a bad shot or a sky buster due to one 55 yard shot i said i took the bird numbers are down no way around that ask them boys in KS if its there dogs fault or there shooting ability that keeps them from knocking down a limit of pheasants in KS daily???

no need to bash me due to low bird numbers that B/S

You gave such expansive idea as to the conditions, you can't blame a poster for having a little jest here and there:cheers:. By the way I have hunted in company of field champions and a few I consider great birddogs, there are times when because of scenting conditions, or just plain bad days, it happens to every dog. I was not saying your dog had a bad day, I am sure he may have one eventually, In a season where humor is your only friend, a little leavity here seemed in order. No harm no foul. I always tell my friends that if they were positioned right, shot better, and we all had better dogs, we would have limited out. This way I believe there "are" birds, I assume they elude us! Make's it tolerable, with steaks on the grill, and a cool one later. By the way, it can't be me! according to my Kids, I'm always on target and in the right position, I spent years cultivating that belief!

I know nothing about Turkey hunting but It sounds like a great time. To me, there is nothing better than walking a field with a good bird dog..the end result of birds in the bag is only a small part of why I love it. I guess thats why its called hunting. If I want guaranteed results and 20 birds for my dog to flush ill head to a preserve..which I do..quite frequently..But nothing beats the excitement of working hard and finally nailing a wild curly spur. I dont care about how many birds I see or bag. I just love being out there with dogs and friends.

never said i bagged 3 roosters & wounded 2... i was talking about the number of rooster pheasants i harvested or had a chance to compared to prairie chickens it was about the same that is poor pheasant numbers because chickens are on the rare side...

i dont get wear you got i personally bagged 3 roosters & wounded 2??? sorry for adding so much info im not a english teacher if u dont get what i posted read again or dont get mad if i correct you... i do think you were trying to be sarcastic david0311 over all else the what rifle do i use for 55 yard shots says that clear...

oldandnew no bad feelings i dont have champion dogs by any means & i cant blame scenting conditions because it rained the day b4 so plenty of moisture was available to hold scent for the dogs... i did watch a pheasant run behind our line of walkers so that very well could of been happening alot that happens when u have a line of guys spread out to far apart the pheasants can get in between u thats wear i popped at the 55 yrd rooster

no hard feeling & im not trying to doom & gloom im just saying the locals & many hunters i talked with said the birds were more then 26%-28% down??? hope once the corn come off the birds are all over???

ive never hunted a preserve but would for my dog only like lonerooster say there is nothing like tracking & trailing a truely wild rooster & put n him in ur game bag... a preserve can not compare to that at all its just shooting a bird if your not doing it for you dog in my eyes...

that being said im not out in the pheasant fields for a nice walk & to bull shit with my friends i can always do that the other 9 months of the year is my way of looking at it i at least need birds in the fields for my dog... id happily shoot at & miss birds all day as long as my dog was working birds i dont need to kill something to have a good time...

lone rooster i will happily take you on a real turkey hunt not a turkey shoot or turkey wait if you want to see what thats all about its much more then sit n in a pop up blind all day staring at decoys you can actually be part of the hunt if you hunt them not just sit & wait...

i need her to hunt all the time lol

Don't worry, it'll come. Bird contacts are few and far between out here on pheasants and my brothers female lolly gagged a lot her first season, chasing tweety birds and such. Then one day we are hunting a creek bottom with very dense cover when my male got birdy, pushed through to the creek in a thin spot, worked up about 25yds and blew 6 roosters out of a berry briar that Daisy was standing right next to. You could almost see the light bulb go off and she has been all business ever since that day no matter how rare bird contacts are.

I wasn't serious dude. I was just messin' with you. Didn't you see the smiley face?

smo, I have a question for you and I'm sure others have probably noticed also. Why do you type everything with no capital letters? Is your shift key broke? :)

It only works on the "P", "A", "Y", " T", "O", " L". That way he can still spell PAY TO PLAY in caps:)

QUAIL HOUND ok the caps still works yes my girl is coming along very nice i seen the light bulb go off last fri-sun she does not chase tweetys or garbage ETC mice maybe??? but my girl figured out what we are out there to do last wk-end she has a good 25-30 points now just working on the point hold steady to wing & flush & the retrieve to hand on wild birds she only has 2-3 of them
