Spinone Anyone

I was wondering if anybody has experience with the breed. My goal is a a laid back household dog, good with cats, kids, softer tempered, easy to break, not really interested in fur chasing. I have Frenchie Britts now, have had several shorthairs, all turned out fine, but had a pre-occupation with fur, I find annoying and which I didn't have with pointers and setters, living in town now and not really positioned to deal with dogs that blow the door and are halfway down the street before I can get them turned. I could find the right Lab, but I am partial to a pointer and thought these Spinone might fit the bill. I know these guys are more trotters than runners, it's OK, I am a moving more deliberately myself.

No experience with them. I wander what's the difference between the spinone and bracco italiano. Look similiar except one's hairy. Good luck in your search.

I have a friend that has an Orange Roan male, I believe originally purchased in the UK when he was stationed overseas. Mild mannered, large about 90lbs and is a great companion and child friendly. Sadly he has never hunted the dog, so I cannot comment on bird instincts. Your feed bill will definitely increase

See the Spinones occasionally at Navhda tests. Seem to be well mannered dogs. If you want to find a breeder check the navhda test booklets on their website(navhda.org) for the last couple years, they give dog scores and breeder kennel name is listed in the dogs name. see what kennels had the dogs with good scores. Search for that kennel on the web. See if there is a breeder near you that can help you. Might ty crossreferencing with the gundogbreeders.com website. That's how I would approach it.

I ran in a hunt test with one. I was not impressed at all only ranged about 10 yards and did not find a bird. That could have been training but I was just not impressed.

I have seen three Spinones at NAVHDA events. They will come with a high price and contract requiring testing and breeding regulations. not knocking them, just pointing out some things you may wish to know.
