Something different...

These are are all great post. But if I don't feel a little something when I kill something I will stop hunting, otherwise that just makes me a killer. I think we should have respect for all living things, but also keep in perspective that all things live and die and we all play a role in it whether we know it or not. I also grew up trapping and it was great fun pitting you skills against the animals you were trying to catch and the anticipation of approching a set to see if you were successful.

Agree 100%!! Well said.

I truely believe that most hunters could improve their hunting skills by learning to trap. Once you perfect skills that put you in an animal's tracks even before they are, you understand how that animal acts and where it lives. I have enjoyed trapping coyotes and other land set critters over the years, but my heart usually lands in the water. I cut my teeth on beaver and think that they are my favorite.

I have to agree with PD. Trapping makes a better hunter as you learn to read sign from an animal eye. Aiding us today is technology like game cameras that can also add to understanding game, I only wish I had use of them when I was trapping as a kid; I think the learning curve can be accelerated by using game-cameras as well. As hunter we all should have to do are parts in nuisance control arena, weather trapping or call-shooting. I just don?t understand why more hunters do not do more predator control.

I feel tracking animals in the snow taught me a great about the animals. More so than a still photo. Also growing up talking and asking questions of the older hunters and trappers was also a great way to learn. We also need to pass on our knowlege to younger people who want to learn or it will become lost.

Thanks for the comments guys. Been busy doing field work and planting here.

I'm not offended by any comments. I knew some of you pheasant guys are softies!! :D

Most wildlife benefits when ol wiley gets a bullet in his head.

Nick, then I think you will be pleased by the results of our county predator district. Since the snow started falling in December our airforce shot 711 coyotes. This was mostly funded by cattlemen making donations to the cause.

Right on the money!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a predator hunter and spend a lot of time calling and shooting coyotes, but in some of your pictures I felt a little bad for the yotes. They reminded me of house dogs. Laying with their there heads on logs and flattening their ears like they just took a dump on your rug.

I was thinking the same until I remembered what they kill. Esp deer and pheasants.:10sign:

very cool pic & thread started here... i am all for trapping/hunting coyotes i do not hate them but i have any love for them at the same time... they need to be controlled & put in check in many many areas of the country we have them run in our yard & steal chickens & i live 10-12 min from the mall of america!!! i have had to shot gun a few of them in my back yard well its 5 acres but what i do feel sorry about shooting is RED FOX they are so pretty & are kinda on the decline but even cnggack liked these photos so that says alot...

i agree 100% about showing respect to the animals we harvest 1 thing i hate more then anything else is guys that just go out to shot lots of stuff!!! i mean once in awhile thats fine but if you have to kill something to have a good time you are like said above just a killer & thats not cool... most the hunters i know belong to & give back to the wild game they hunt & the habitat the game lives on be it through NWTF PH DU ETC...

also that goes for the pile of dead things on a tail gate pic & or a wall full of birds killed if all you are going out for is a HERO PIC at the end of the day then you have a prob... take the time & show some respect for the game you harvested that day in you pic its only fair...

NICK C you by chance down around buffalo center i see all them wind fields in a pic or 2... take out as many of them pheasant & hunt deer & duck killers as you can man good job & thanks again...
