My step-dad told me he's seen "5 or 6" in Lyon Co. while driving back roads this year. He said there probably aren't enough up there to really hunt yet, but of course it's encouraging to see them.

I'm hearing quite a few quail whistling, but I've learned not to put too much emphasis on the # of bobs I hear whistling in the summer. They're making a lot of noise in the pastures right now:thumbsup:

You should NOT have mentioned it here, everyone will be in YOUR area on opening day.

I used to see them occasionally north of McClouth. Maybe one every couple of years. Saw two up by leavenworth one night a few years ago. They ran in front of the truck. I stopped and tried to flush them, they were booking pretty good.

I've heard more quail this summer than the past several. Actually a little promising for once. North of Topeka.

We got some rain at the right time. I have heard a fair number on my place, but since this is the first year I have had it, and can't compare it to anything yet.

I drove from Cheney, Ks to Lamar, Colorado yesterday and saw 1 rooster that I had to slow down for to miss. The car behind me smacked him! Might have been the only one? He was out west of Greensburg!

I think I am wasting my time trying to propagate pheasants here at Dodge. Any land for sale at McClouth?;)

It does not look very promising in SW Kansas again this year. I resigned my position this past week to enjoy retirement and pheasant hunt this Fall. I WILL definitely stop by Dodge to invite Maynard for breakfast on my way toward the northerly direction. I am looking forward to some good exercise pretty soon.

Come on by.
I have a new cell phone number, so send me a PM before you come.
It is not looking promising around here. I travel a fair number of miles every day and always take some different back roads to see the birds in the ditches. I have yet to see any hatches in the ditches. Not good, but it will get better one of these years. I just can't see me taking up golf while I wait the return of good pheasant numbers. Besides the club surely wouldn't approve of my bid overalls as proper golfing attire.

It is always nice to visit Dodge and I surely will PM you in advance of any travel plans Mr. Byrd. Many thanks for your generosity!

Bilbo, you better get here fast, as I am thinking of trading my Ford County land for the new promised land of pheasant hunting in Leavenworth or Jefferson County.:)

There is some land, but it is pretty darned expensive. Not many pheasants, but turkeys are thick as sparrows. Birds will be back there someday, and I will be there again.

Maynard, I think the Bib Overall Club is a great idea!!!! I can use the extra pockets for Golfballs!!:thumbsup: Bilbo, I sure hope your retirement is filled with great times and many sunsets in the field!!

I look at land every time in KC. Have looked on the Kansas side and also in Platte and Clay Counties in MO.

My Key Brand bibs are my farmer cargo pants. If I wore cargo pants I would have to have some heavy duty suspenders to keep them up. It used to be in my carpenter days I carried lots of stuff in my pouch. Seldom did I have to come down for something. Maybe that is why my joints are worn out.:(

Ah, for your information, Bilbo's working days were filled with great times and many sunsets in the field.;)

BTW, I do not approve the wearing of this type of bibs(no place for a cell phone).

Now, if I could get the location of those roosters, I would begin my land search again in NE Kansas.

There is some beutiful ground in those places, especially by the river. My uncle stole a place 20 years ago up by mcclouth. 160 acres, 60 mature woods, balance cropland. Two nice stocked ponds. 1300 sf brick ranch on a full basement. Lady worked with his wife and just wanted to move on after her husband died. 180k:eek:. Guy killed a huge non typical there 8-10 years ago. At time it was like the 5th biggest non-typical ever taken in the state of kansas. Hung in the entry of Cabela's for 6 months or so. Kid that arrowed it was a mgr there. Nice place.

He must be a bike rider, cause he looks as slick as a greased pig. Meaning no hair!!!!! For a minute I thought it was GCB, but I know he would never have a pair like that because of the Welding sparks would not be favorable!!! But , he did have a drink in his hand and that is what threw me off for a second.

As far as your joints wore out Maynard, I understand! My bibs usually just hold more shells. I think when I bend over to pick up a bird or pet a dog I lose 3 or 4 shells. For some reason when I get back to the truck my pockets are empty!!!!!!:D:D:D
