retired pastor

got a new neighbor awhile back, a retired pastor, heard a rumor that i bird hunted and wanted to know if i would take him. hmmm, well, here's the deal, i'll slow down on my swearing and you are not to preach to me, he said he could handle that. we leave for n.w. kansas in the morning for parts of three days. in the mean time he now owns a new pair of boots, new pants, new vest, hat and just came by with a new beretta 20 ga. o/u to make it through the day with. seems like he is wound up, hope we find something for him to shoot at. that's a lot of pressure on an ol' man

cheer

Sounds like a good friendship in the making. I have seen plenty of pastor's and ministers over the years that you wouldn't even know they were who they were.

This might floor you but I'm a ordained minister. That doesn't cause me to not try and be just one of the guys. I'm not perfect in many ways. All we can do is live our life best as we can and ask for forgiveness for the things we may have done wrong in our path of life.

Hope you enjoy your day afield.

The pastor who has the church on my road. He use to take care of this church and one in a adjoining town. Now his wife does these two churches and he has another church about 70 miles away. The two churches here are paying them about $80,000 a year. Now he takes care of this new church and I have no idea what he gets for being the pastor there. Not bad pay IMO.

Guess what, I too am ordained! Working full-time in a church. But I still love to hunt, take guys hunting, teach people how to hunt, etc. Don't look at him as a pastor, look at him as a man just like you. We all have faults, we all have skills. My suggestion is that you give him a little grace, with all new equipment he might miss a few times! On the other hand, I always like to bring those guys along, sometimes I get to shoot a few extra birds to help with their limits!!!!!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did I just read your admission to "party hunting"?
On your knees, brother. You've got some explaining to do :D

Might be some hope for you yet, musti. This could be your salvation:) I'm a PK myself. Hunted with a preacher all my growing up. I'd give a lot for just one more day!!!

I pray that pheasants will fall from the skies like manna from heaven. Lord knows, there aren't many on the ground.

Have a great hunt!

Be sure to post some pics.

Musti,
If your new friend has new boots and he has not broken them in he may start cussing real quick like, I hope that is not the case, sore feet that is, you might take some boot grease for him. Nothing worst than new boots that are not broken in.

Yeah I know that for sure, but I was young and stupid, but learned quickly. :)

I believe party hunting is legal for small game in Minnesota?

Party hunting is not hunting as a member of a party of hunters, it's shooting more than your legal bag limit to fill someone elses bag. I personally have never done anything like that; AS FAR AS YOU KNOW

LOL, nice thread! I grew up hunting alongside men of the cloth & still do.

@mustistuff: Perhaps the Good Lord will smile on you for a good deed done. I'm a minister too, but Lord knows I don't always fit the constricting cookie-cutter clone model for one. ;)
