Put my buddy of 14 + years down today

sure am sorry to hear this. What a great looking crew you have there. Your posts tells me that you 2 were very lucky to have each other. hang in there
 
I've experienced this very thing, twice thus far. I've held my best friends as they breathed their last breath. Reluctantly I've turned them loose to Heaven, knowing that one day we will walk those trails again.....together. Sorry for your loss.

I know from personal experience the pain your going though and do know that time helps heal the pain but we seem to remember the good times and that helps too.

Very sad. Best advice I received when I lost my dog -- get another dog. It will chase the blues away.
 
Reading all this, looking at the pictures... I have a lump in my throat like a softball. Hang in there.

Saying Goodbye to a Faithful Dog

You gave him a great life and he returned the favor by improving yours. The way you feel says you're just the type of person that should have a dog or more than one so they live as good a life as possible.
 
Sorry to hear about your loss Onpoint. I'm dreading the day I have to put my lab down. She just turned 8 years old. I hope she's able to live that long. So many memories we have with them. I'll be crying myself, heck I've cried because I've had to leave her at the Vet for surgery before...... They mean alot to us....
 
My deep condolences Onpoint. You'll never forget the times you shared & someday, another dog will evoke the same bittersweet memories & you'll tell him all about a great old Chessie who once did the same thing.

Thanks again everybody. It brings tears to my eyes every time I come back to this thread. I miss the big guy so much.
 
Yeah it's tough pill to swallow for sure. I'm somehow preparing for what may be my old boy's last year as he has developed some pretty bad arthritis in his spine and is having a hard time getting around. It's a hard decision, probably the hardest thing you'll ever have to do as you weigh what's best for the dog and not you.

One thing is for sure and that is time heals the grief, but it still ain't easy.

You said it, I have a 9 year old Champion Beagle male that slowed down a lot this year. Wife said get him fixed and she will make a house dog out of him:(. We did jump and run 14 rabbits two weeks ago and took 11 of them home, he did hang the whole day. When we go everyone ask if the old man is going.:thumbsup:Will be tough day. He has never let me down at a trial or on a hunt.
