Primer for the 2012 GF&P Roadcounts

SDJIM, your posts are always a breath of fresh air my friend:thumbsup: Thank you:cheers:

As far as the birds in your CRP go, as you know, it depends on what else is around.

I have 57 acres of CRP in one half section and the guy to the west of that has several killer shealter belts and there is also an old 12 acre farmstead. My biggest worry is the loss of 220 acres of CRP that was across the fence to the north--its now a corn field. If I had hayed half of it there would not be much to carry the birds thru the winter and as is I'm sure the first hard winter will cut the numbers back a lot

The other part of the farm has about 80 acres of various habitat and as I was thinking about all of this--I remembered--I started all of my habitat work to be just that--HABITAT --what was I thinking--IT STAYS HABITAT:D

By the sounds of it, with so much being hayed I think they'll be loaded this winter. It's good of you to leave them alone do so for multiple reason. I know it's a tough go right now with the drought and all. I commend you for your auctions haymaker. Thank you:thumbsup:

Thanks for your kind words. I am trying to generate enough income to make this work without having to farm ditch to ditch. If the sloughs can provide some hay in a dry year and still have some cattails for the birds and that can provide someone a good hunting experience then I think I have achieved a balance between production and conservation. It seems like a win - win situation to me.

Brood survey results coming this week...or next?
anyone know?

Normally right around the end of August. Rest assured that as soon as they are released someone on this site will post the info. I suspect you will see some nice increases across the majority of the state.

I hope you are right. I am starting to have my doubts. I have yet to see a brood.
