NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

.70 so far here and it actually rained instead of a drizzle. First time I have had some standing water in my yard in the last 2 years. They will tear the hell out of the roads tomorrow. Farmers will get pestered pulling out stuck hunters.

Here at noon and dumped another 1.05" from gauge, that's 2.35" for the day and radar forecast shows rain until 7PM. YTD now 23.25"

In Western Kansas, you take rain when it comes and you like it! We call this rain event a $1,000,000 rain, because of the future community revenue opportunities it provides in the whole county. This is amazing, especially for this time of the year.

However, opening day of pheasant season is equivalent to Christmas morning. This is a picture of 1 particular farm trail road which are all essential for parking and accessing most of the hunting lands out here. This picture was taken this morning...or ~1 inch of rain ago, and it hasn't stopped raining, nor expected to stop until tomorrow morning Closing in on 2.5" since last Monday here.

.90 here since late last night and still raining. We need one of those 10-12 inch rains over a week period to bring water into Cedar Bluff. 22 feet low right now and the Smokey is bone dry as usual.

3:30PM and added another 0.70", that's 3.05" for the day and 23.95" YTD.
I am really old and forgetful, but I don't remember the last time the Ponderosa got a soaker like this. There will be no bottom to many of the roads and fields and CRP grass.
Radar looks like it might clear out about 7 to 8 PM. Low forecast for 37, although my bottom ground will get colder than that, likely freezing.

Added another 0.55" as the storm moved out.
3.60 total rain today. Quite a soaker, 24.50" YTD
Low tonight forecast at 39. My bottom ground will be colder, maybe even freezing.

If a hunter tears up the roads and gets a farmer to assist in getting his stuck truck out, might not want to ask for permission to hunt his land. Just saying.

On further note to the road conditions, I can assure yall(out of staters), that by sleeping in and enjoying a nice breakfast then hitting the fields off the gravel/pavement once mid morning or afternoon rolls around will result in a more enjoyable day. Use the roads at your own peril in the morning. But don’t blame me when you’re walking 2+ miles to find someone to pull you out at 6:15am. Best of luck to all!

Weekend update. Had a regular group from KC that committed to the long drive out west. Surprisingly, the roads were fairly solid and by the middle of the afternoon on Saturday we could even access some trail roads. We didn't hunt any of the "honey hole ambush spots" and stayed in CRP along corn or milo stalks because our group was too big. (I feel like it's cheating when you have so many people you can surround an entire pit, not giving the birds a chance.) We walked our butts off, with everyone in the group having between 24-27,000 steps on Saturday alone. Hunting was good and had success. We only walked one field that did not produce a shooting opportunity. Had a 2.4 bird to man ratio over the weekend... Based on what I keep hearing about my favorite hunting state, Kansas, this was a pretty good weekend.

We had no rain down here in Northeast Oklahoma from 9/1 until the beginning of this month. I have had 12" of rain in November.

1.35 total. We need more to fill Cedar Bluff. I called today and the lake hasn't even came up an inch. We need a big 10 inches of rain over a week period to bring it up and help the Aquifer. This will help the wheat but that is it.
