NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

.70 so far here and it actually rained instead of a drizzle. First time I have had some standing water in my yard in the last 2 years. They will tear the hell out of the roads tomorrow. Farmers will get pestered pulling out stuck hunters.

Here at noon and dumped another 1.05" from gauge, that's 2.35" for the day and radar forecast shows rain until 7PM. YTD now 23.25"

In Western Kansas, you take rain when it comes and you like it! We call this rain event a $1,000,000 rain, because of the future community revenue opportunities it provides in the whole county. This is amazing, especially for this time of the year.

However, opening day of pheasant season is equivalent to Christmas morning. This is a picture of 1 particular farm trail road which are all essential for parking and accessing most of the hunting lands out here. This picture was taken this morning...or ~1 inch of rain ago, and it hasn't stopped raining, nor expected to stop until tomorrow morning Closing in on 2.5" since last Monday here.

.90 here since late last night and still raining. We need one of those 10-12 inch rains over a week period to bring water into Cedar Bluff. 22 feet low right now and the Smokey is bone dry as usual.

3:30PM and added another 0.70", that's 3.05" for the day and 23.95" YTD.
I am really old and forgetful, but I don't remember the last time the Ponderosa got a soaker like this. There will be no bottom to many of the roads and fields and CRP grass.
Radar looks like it might clear out about 7 to 8 PM. Low forecast for 37, although my bottom ground will get colder than that, likely freezing.
