Looking for suggestions on a name for a new pup, its a male.
I picked one and the family doesn't care for it. We've got a jake and max...
Everyone wants Hank, is that to close to heal & here commands?

Thanks

I really don't think it makes any difference to the dog, mine always seemed to respond to tone, rather than the word. Make yourself happy, the dog will go along with you.

:)

I've read that you want a name with two syllables because most commands are singular. I don't honestly know how much of a difference that makes to the dog though. I guess it helps them differentiate their name from commands?

I'm really looking for some names to offer up to the family for a vote. You know if the boss isn't happy no ones happy.

I'd agree they respond to excited tones vs mono etc
I've heard one vs two

Any cool or traditional names I'm all ears

Where did you get your lab from in your avatar?

A friend of mine named one of his dogs Colt, spelled it Kolt.
I always thought that was a great name for a pup.

My dad used to train some great english pointers. He named them all damn you. Quit chasing those rabbits damn you. Get in the truck damn you. Quit barking damn you. They were good dogs though. In fact until I was ten or twelve I thought that was my name too:)

Cooper is a good dog name. We also have a Woody. Also known as Woodster, Woodhead, Woodshed, Woodstock. He like all of His names. :)

Depending on how much training you plan on doing, your dogs' call name might be God D___it or Jesus Christ. :p

His lab is Jake.

Here is a list:

Bear, Blaze, Blade, Breeze, Boon, Chief, Cloud, Cannon, Cinder, Conner, Doc, Dodge, Dollar, Dandy, Gator, Grizz, Gunner, Flare, Ford, Hunter, Ringo, Rocket, Ranger, Rooster, Spook, Steel, Smoke, Skeet, Stone, Storm, Saddle, Tray, Timber, Tracker, Tucker, Trailer, Tanner, Tang, Tad, Tab, Pepper, Pride, Parker, Pat, Pepsi, Rock, Raptor, Ridge.........

Yellow, eh? How about: Prairie, straw, Kochia, Thicket, Quill, Flare, Mesa, Brave, Sulpher, Cimmaron, Fall, Timber, Thrasher, Cactus, Scout, Chisum, Hondo, Nash, Paint, Traveler, Trooper?

I'm sure his name will be these and a few more choice words! We're planning a lot of training. Want to try the hunt test & field trial thing if he's got the desire.
Where did your dog come from? Based on your name I'm guessing yours is a lab:cheers:

And maybe not a good name for a pup?

Let us know for sure you you decide.

I too think chisum sounds good. Good strong name. You can never go wrong with John Wayne:thumbsup:

John Chisum???? Never heard of her....:D

Thanks for the input so far guys, we have three weeks before the pup comes home. We've put all of them on paper, a few survived! I've pulled my son over to the dark side, almost have my pick.

Keep them coming if you got a favorite
