Moving to Minneapolis area help

My oldest son and his family are moving to the Minneapolis area. They are a late 30s early 40s aged couple with two toddlers. Where are some good places for them to look for a house? Are there any places to absolutely stay away from? One of them just took a job with Polaris if that helps for an area to focus on.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Traffic is a consideration, schools as well…home prices, too…I grew up in Hopkins, am there a lot caring for elderly parents…Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Chaska…St Paul side is nice as well…

Ok, Medina…further West…like that area…buffalo, Hanover, greenfield, etc…son of mine did residential treatment this summer in Waverly, was down there a lot…st Michael, nice, Delano…that whole area is good…have friends and family out that way, highway 12, 55. Etc…good stuff

I live in the west metro and enjoy it but if I were to do it over I should have gone a few miles further west out to avoid being in Hennepin county.

Greenfield, Delano etc would be on my short list.

Gatsby: noticed you are in the west metro...good advice to avoid Hennepin Cty. I'm in Minnetonka, west of 494 about a mile.

I'm in Plymouth just west of 494. Grew up in Minnetonka.

Wayzata (Plymouth), Minnetonka, Edina, and Eden Prairie all in the top 10 of public schools in the state. You can't go wrong with any of them. Maple Grove isn't bad either, but make sure it's the western half.

Housing in these suburbs is not cheap by any means.

I would avoid the first ring suburbs around Mpls and St Paul. The houses are smaller and the schools are not as good.

Saint Michael-Albertville and Otsego would be another option to look at. Downside to Wayzata it is in Hennepin County and it is to close to Minneapolis.

Thank you all for your help. This has given them some great insights. Now, when Whisky and I come up for a visit, I trust we can rely on you all for a hunt or a visit.

Wayzata is good schools but higher priced real estate. There are parts of Plymouth and west of that that would be closer to Polaris but still in Wayzata schools. I'm down in Chaska and love it - lots of young families and in Carver county.

I grew up in Osseo and Golden Valley on the west side of the Twin Cities and would not recommend either of those places now. Lived in Hudson, WI, just across the river from St. Paul suburbs for almost 30 years. Nice area with good schools, but it too is changing fast (and it's WIsconsin!)
