More fun

Ken?

I know it wears on you, but once you get it done, it's done.

Congratulations on the campaigning. Finish it off while the dogs are still hot.

THEN hunt.

impressive- way to go Ken

Long long ago I watched a freind fella run two Golden Retrievers in a big AKC trial-
his quote "it's a lot of work to get to this stage"

Thanks,
A lot of luck too Shadow, lots of luck. They have to perform yes, but the birds have to fall in place too, the gunning has to go your way, where you run on the grounds play in, and several other things as well. Problem with Nationals is 5-7 days off work. Which right now is getting the stink eye with the guy I work with. So I doubt I will go. We are swamped with building here, and no end in sight till spring. Gotta make hay while I can as well. We are lucky to be busy the way it sounds, so I will wait till next year to go to a National if they quailfy then. Besides at 3 and 4 years old, More wild birds and maturity will make them better. I will wish I went after, but it is not the only thing in life is how I have to look at it I guess. I do know one thing. there will be people happy that they won't be there.:D

Congrats Ken. Just seen this. Good luck in the nationals. I finally got my water test done and my Fast track dog " Chase" is now an AFC. Headed to South Dakota in 2 days for a week of hunting. Meeting a couple guys from Wisconsin there, one that trials also. Long drive from California but worth it. I'll be watching the the national series how they go on the internet hope to see you place. Good luck. John.

Who ya meeting from WI? Thats where I'll be this weekend. One Last try to qualify River for the Open. Headed to the Southern WI trial. Don Mock from out your way is judging I believe. Have fun in the Dakota's. And Congrats on the AFC, thats awsome.

Odie took 3rd in the open in Ohio again this weekend! He is feeling better and just having a good year this year. I am at the WI trial with River and she looked good through 2, so well see if we get a 3rd what happens. Very tall switch grass out here, making a real challenge for all the dogs. We are at the Wern Way sportsman's club, beautiful place.

Oops Wern Valley I meant. River finished but did not get the nod. Best run she ever had, go figure.
Any way still happy with the dog. One is running good for Nationals, but the other is full of himself right now.:D Hope we get it sorted out by next week. Either way it will be a good time in NE. Gotta be happy with River's win on the year and Odie getting 5 placements in 8 events.

Good luck Ken. I hunted with Greg kuhlman. Got limits 4of 5 days. I see on the am nationals kern GUI land has a fast track dog also. I met him when he was judging out here in ca. I'm originally from the same town as he is in mm. I grew up in fridley a burb of the cities. Good luck again! John Stuart.

LOL, Ahh yes Kermit. Guy is a nice dog, could use more running. Kirm is a Little laid back these days. Heads south for the winter relaxing :D. He has been around for a long time. He is a great guy. a good friend, and a hall of fame judge. He has judged more Nationals then any one I believe. He is first class in my book, very positive and always there to congratulate any one. They don't mold a better human then good ole Kirm. I am fortunate to have been able to train with him and shoot over Guy many times. He is in the same Hotel, and I am sure we will be hanging out some. Routing for team MN. MN will be represented by 16 real good dogs. And Odie has beat National winners 2wice this year giving us the confidence we need to just relax, have fun, and realize the rest is just like any other trial. And any one of the dogs can beat each other any given day. All I know is that if I bomb out right off, I will dawn a nice suit and tie, and eat that most expensive pheasant dinner ever .

Well John, luck has to run out some time. I got all the way down here in NE and Odie is sick. 103.9 temp and may not be able to perform. Antibiotics most likely will not work by Mon. He has no run and can not smell his own farts right now.:( So he may be a scratch. River will have to hold down the fort now.

Ken, I've lit a candle for Odie, and figure he'll want to run, even if you don't let him.

You have a good time. River will defend the kennel's honor.

Best wishes.

The vet down here put him on an antibiotic and probiotic and his fever broke. He still tired easy on a light work out today. But did find and retrieve his one bird I let him have. So I will cast him off and see what happens.

Ken, sorry to hear about Odie. I had a dog with a fever this week also. Antibiotics really helped and she was back in the field this weekend.

If you are coming through Watertown on your way home let me know. I'll buy lunch.

Sorry Zeb I would but I run Odie to IL and drop him off to run in the National Open after I get done here.:D

Hey Springer where in IL is the National open ?? I might head down and watch

The national open is in Onsted, Michigan this year. I believe the pro trainer that Ken has been working with is located in IL.

keep us posted Ken....

Well, since Ken is undoubtedly busy and I'm sure there are folks here who are interested....

The national amateur championship started on Monday. 112 dogs entered originally and three were scratched, so 109 dogs started the first series of the trial. All of the dogs got to run their first series on Monday and 98 dogs (including both Ken's dogs - Odie and River) made it back to the second series which will be run today. For those not familiar, the national amateur championships and national open championships field trials involve 5 land series and 1 water series, with dogs either being disqualified due to a mistake (not steady, passed bird, failed retrieve, etc.) or not being asked back due to the judges' decision. The cutbacks will generally become more significant after the second series.

Ken will have to give more of the play-by-play, but that's the overview....
