Live Pheasant Photos

I guess I don't really know what red-ice is. We have lost alot of pheasants to the heavy snow of late Nov and early Dec. I have never seen this many dead birds this early in the Winter, and we had alot of cold weather that has been hard on them as well. Sloughs in my area that are usually a great Winter hideout for pheasants are completely covered. And I do mean completely. Many birds did not crawl out of the nice hiding places they were in. moon🌝

Red-ice is when their beaks, airways, fill up with ice. Sometimes it will crack their sculls in the process too. The birds that you speak of that were found frozen/dead died from red-ice:(

If you're interested here's a thread from a few years back discussing red-ice.

Good info, Nick. I did not know it was called that. Yes, the ones that I have found died this way. Many others died when they were unable to get out of the nice hideaway they were in when the snow started to fly. They were nice and warm and cozy until they couldn't get out.:(

It's nice to look at these photos in the morning. Help start the day off right. lol

:) I am hoping that the Sun comes out one of these days, so maybe we can see the color in the Roosters again.......not to say that the Hens are not beautiful.

Wow. I really like the position you caught on camera with the rooster in the back. Very nice coloration on his rump too. Beautiful.
