last check of the weather.....

Good call kb. Internet is full of guys who do it better than you. At least I posted on here for a year or so before I started being a di@k. Kinda does have a Shadow resemblance:D

I do have to agree carp u are a di*&%^ :) Anyone that can not root for bama is a............. i love contraversey on here it cracks me up ,quit smiling carp you love it to im headed to bilby tomorrow if you wanted to turn the lab loose with my piece of junk pointer ive invited a few others hopefully smizell will come but whatever

Don't tell my pointy dog buddies, but I'm torn between a lab or a brit for my next dog.

Hopefully we can get out sometime and I will show you what a good one can do. He matured a ton in SD in three trips this year. Really attacked the cover with some awesome retrieves. At 3 he should still have some good upside.

Nice post. Sounds like you and the boys had a good time.

lost bird

best dog in the world won't find em' all. color breeding in labs will only cost you money and you gain nothing from it, yellow and chocolate are recessive genes and you pay more for that feature, they all can be fun to hunt over if you keep them in shape however most labs out there are so fat that if they ever fell down they would rock themselves to sleep. first ya have to decide if you want a flusher or a pointer, brits are fine but their breeding seems to be going the wrong way, same think that happened to the irish setter, labs and a few others. the usable high percentage dogs are the gsp and gwh. in any event other than using a full choke with # 4's, all dogs can be fun to hunt over even if it were lassie

kansasbrittany

one thing that this guy is really doing right though is he is in the field with a kid, that's great at least some of the time, my kid now are my dogs, best i can do

cheers

setters on point

actually i had heard at one time or other that they actually would find a bird now and then and oddly, point it. just kidding, great film and shot, looked like a good gun too. just to be mean again, the dog broke to the flush and the honoring dog's tail was not flagged. i would have been proud to have been there so lighten up

cheers

Well he is not perfect at 18 months yet.

But just to be mean, where is your video of your fully broke pup, with you killing a wild bird over ;)

setters in action

i really like bird dogs and probably could learn to like setters also. don't have that problem as they both have short tails, they were encouraged to break to flush as it save birds being lost, mine are 6 and 9 years, i'm 72. can't outrun them but keep up pretty well and no, they don't have a chain to drag around to slow them down

cheers again

You have to pick dogs that are well suited to your style of hunting and the type of birds and cover you are hunting. There is nothing wrong with Britts, GSP, Vizsla ....
They all have thier strengths and weaknesses.

Nice videos! I love the setter dog! My setter was watching the videos with me! Nice shot btw!

Thanks, I really like them. My wife got me a GoPro video camera, which is fun to use.

First off I respect your opinion as I do everyone elses on here. However, I'd like to hear more on your opinion on how a Labradors breeding has gone the way of other once great sporting breeds.

I will say this. I have a 5 yr old 60lb BLF that will hunt all day everyday. She is field trial bred and out of some outstanding dogs. Great labs are out there everywhere with excellent breeding. Your not going to be able to go to petsmart and pick up one. You pay for what you get for the most part.

labs again

i don't have all the fact before me, as i have stated before, i had hunting labs for about 17 years. am familiar with the mutts. the labs have a horrible problem with imperfect hips, that's a fact. the reason for this are likely many but the reason it is so prevalent in the breeding program ( lack of really) where people just had to breed their mutts to any ol' thing and had the show ring or just what they thought were good looks in mind, so in the process they were never interested in their brains, nose, hearing, HIPS, stamina, just their idea of what a lab should look like, they didn't really have a clue. as you shop around you will run across hunting labs, (meant to be) and show (pet) labs. the dogs are really quite different, we don't have space to even talk about the problems with other colors. in any event most labs no longer have a clue as to what hunting is all about and couldn't do it if they were given the chance. true most any of them will run around in the field for awhile and all that i ever saw would retrieve a ball or just about anything else, is that a hunting dog, don't think so. if a dog can't really hunt he gets washed out, in the ring they just breed him to something else

labs again

ran out of space. anyway, in field trailing if the dog can't compete he gets left out. what this does it makes way for those that have brains, stamina, good body frame, and senses, everything he needs to hunt, when the show people got a hold of the labs all they wanted was their idea of what they wanted the dog to look like, everything else be damn. so the breed hit the skids, are there good one's out there, sure there are but they take some work to find and just because someone says they are hunters, don't mean shit, there is in fact show stock,(non hunter likely) and field trial (hunting stock) if you need a lab, spend the time and run down some hunting stock and don't worry about the looks, get a dog that mommie and daddie hunted. good luck, labs can be great hunting companions and from hunting stock, you will have them as pets for a longer period of time than one from the show or pet circle

cheers

And of course it also depends on what type of "hunting" your referring to. If it's upland hunting your most interested in then you need to pick a dog that speacializes in that. If your wanting to waterfowl hunt then pick a retriever breed.

I never buy a retriever as a "hunting" dog. I look for breeding that would make the best field trial or hunt test dog. I don't do either, but I never look for a pup who the breeder tells me "yeah, the dam and sire are great hunting dogs but niether have ever ran a hunt test or field trial". Thanks but no thanks, I'll go elsewhere. I'm just picky though. I don't like to gamble but when I do I like for the odds to be in my favor.

It's a give me that when buying a lab that that the hips and eyes are certified throughout the pedigree. I wouldn't buy one without, ever.....

I can't believe you guys are falling for Chad's web of deception. Notice he forgot his camera again.......but keeps talking about all these birds he is finding and killing.......sure.
