last check of the weather.....

camera stuff

guys that carry cameras with them while they are hunting are doing so cause it gives them something to do while walking around and finding no birds. if they knew how to hunt and had good dogs they wouldn't have time to be playing with their cameras, they would be too busy shooting

..............

BDC2,

We kinda thought it was Shadow. But the camera comment kinda ruled him out. Shadow liked to take a bunch of pictures. This one has me puzzled. I thought I was an opinionated di@khead until I started reading this guys crap. I'm really not that bad no matter what OAP the 'bama ball bagger says:D

Carp, hadn't even thought about the camera thing. Knew it wasn't shadow though. Shadow's britts weren't just good ......they were" really good bird dogs".:D

Gotta love oap , only guy on here tugging the chain harder than you!

shutter stuff

actually i do stop shooting once in awhile, sometimes cause ya have to reload and once in awhile i get a soft spot for my dog looking at me with a bird in his mouth. actually i am jealous of the guy that can do a good job with the video in the field and hunt too, me, i'm stuck with my brownie

KB,

Really enjoyed your posts. Sounds to me like you're finding more birds than anybody here. Tough season for sure.

Everybody - I think we need to give this mustistuff guy a break. His posts are truly hilarious as nobody could possibly be as ignorant as he. Busting somebody's chops for carrying a camera and saying it's because his dog isn't finding any birds? Ya godda admit, somebody saying something that foolish is just trying to get a reaction. Everybody knows that a true sportsman/dogman carries a camera because the memories of his dog and the hunt are far more important than the game a single bird. In addition, the guy carrying the camera knows his dog is steady enough not to worry about the bird.

I like mustystuff's posts. He honestly makes me grin. He's the "Larry the Cable Guy" of the forum and the poster child for the HSUS and gun control. I can't wait to see what he'll say next!

Let me guess what he'll say next....i dont ned no 'lectric collar a shotgun at 60 yerds is guud enuf my dawgs er tuff and ken takeit.

Enjoy this guy, don't hate him.

Point!

camera stuff again

enjoyed "point" actually having a blast, wish i had found this site some time ago cause by now i would have ya all riled up. actually, the problem with my brownie in taking pic. of my dog pointing a rooster is that the bird hears the shutter and causes it to flush, no shit, then ya have to do something with the camera, grab you gun and watch the bird sail away. been there, done that, maybe ought to oil the thing. maybe a telephoto on it might work. i really wrote this like it was passing the hat for a new camera, bought the old one in 1951

cheers

I can't believe you guys are falling for Chad's web of deception. Notice he forgot his camera again.......but keeps talking about all these birds he is finding and killing.......sure.

:D

Ya got me. We were actually chasing meadowlarks in the back yard. I couldn't figure out how to crop the neighbor's house from the point pics, so I fabricated a story about forgetting my camera.

Cheesy, I haven't seen/read anything about your adventures since the opener. You workin' 8 days/wk or just spending time with a youngin'? Either way, Happy Holidays to you and yours'

Point!

For us, it came down to finally having good scenting conditions. The dogs could actually trail something. I saw my GSP lift his head on the first day as he scented birds at a distance. As he got closer he'd lower his head and prepare for lock-up. It reminded me and the boys how bird hunting w/ pointing dogs was supposed to look. We hadn't seen the dogs really work a field of birds yet this season.

Very happy with the performance of both dogs this weekend. It's just too bad the snow packs into the pads of my GWP. He ends up laying down in the field and chewing it out of his paws, all the way through the field, on snowy/icy days. Probably time to invest in a doggy-boot company and start buying in bulk:rolleyes: Taping toddler socks on the dogs in the morning and removing them at the end of each day is not for me. I'd rather lose a boot or 2 every trip:eek:

snow job

can't imagine your dog shutting down cause of a few snow flakes on his pads, what a whimp!! if you need dog boots make your own. i think you will need to get a 3.75" motorcycle inner tube, measure the length you will need to go up the dogs leg, about 8"'s, round one end slightly, the top end being just a little shorter than the bottom, curl the bottom up over the top of the tube and either put in a couple of stitches or better yet a rivet. keep them on with duck tape, they will last for many seasons, work really well when there are burrs in the field. you can get about 8 or 9 boots out of a tube for about $6. one hint, if you have never used boots, get yourself already to hunt before you put them on, put the boots on the then quickly walk off, the dog, not wanting to be left behind will quickly forget about the boots and go hunt. the problem with buying them is the cost and some days they just seem to loose one so now you need two sets and you are talking a case of shells. been using them for over 20 years but mostly for burrs, another hint for a temporary fix is good ol' duck take, place one piece length wise and then wrap around the paw with another pcs. a hard running dog will take over 2 hours on dry ground to wear them out, again, mostly i used them for burrs and when needed just took the roll out of my game vest. see, i'm not all bad

cheers
