Irish Setter Havoc Boots

Irish Setter has come out with a new series of boots called the Havoc. They come in both an Upland and Big Game models. If anyone tries a pair I would really appreciate a report as I'm considering getting a pair before the seaon starts. Not sure which model I'll get. Here are the links to them from Cabelas:

On the Irish Setter web site they show the Big Game model in Uninsulated or with 400, 800 or 1,200 grams of Thinsulate.

I like the looks of the upland and would be interested in a report as well.

They appear to be similar in build to the Danner Pronghorns. Cant speak for the Irish Setter but the pronghorns are super comfortable for me. Like the stitch down vs glued on soles that both appear to have.

I had two pairs of the previous version of these. Vey similar other than different soles. The were extremely comfortable, but did not hold up all that well. One pair wore out the front seam in a little over a season and the second pair lasted about that long before they leaked like a sieve. They were sent to GoreTex and replaced with a different model.

I don't know that there was a "previous version" of these boots. It's a totally new design. I suppose the Upland DSS could maybe be considered a previous version but i wouldn't compare the two as they are quite different.

I have a pair of Irish Setter Upland boots that I bought over 10 years ago. They have been used hard and are still in great shape. I honestly don't think I can wear them out. Never had a seam let loose or anything. They do let in a little moisture if I don't keep the leather waterproofed but have been the driest boots I've owned by far. Guess is all have different experiences with various products.

These are the ones that I had. They are similar. I loved them, they were like slippers but they just didn't hold up.

I tried the Ground Sensing boots but they were too soft and not enough support so I sent them back. I think these Havoc's are totally different. At least I hope so.

Here is what I started wearing at my NSTRA trials this spring.

Very comfortable and waterproof. I'll be wearing them early season pheasant hunting. Just wish they would make them in a 8-9" boot.

I agree on the comments about other types of Irish Setter boots. I had a previous pair and they were worn out before my first season with the boots was even over. Based upon that experience, I am very cautious about buying any type of boot from Irish Setter. I would have to hear a lot of positive comments about the boots durability before I even would consider it.

I bought a pair and have used them a few times grouse hunting. They're very comfortable and relatively lightweight. So far I like them but I hope they hold up. I do hunt a lot so will post back at end of season.

I have a pair of the Irish Setter Havoc Big Game model with 400 gr. of insulation on the way from Cabelas. I'll also report back after I've had them for a bit.

The Big Game Havoc's just didn't feel right so I sent them back to Cabelas and tried to order the Havoc Upland model but they were out of stock in my size. I did find the Upland in my size on the web at Zappos and have them on the way.

A week ago I tried on the Upland's at the Irish Setter store in Sioux Falls and they felt great but the only size they had was 1/2 size to big.

Has anyone else bought a pair of these? I'll report back when I get them.

Ups delivered my new Irish Setter Havoc upland boots today.

I've been wearing them all afternoon and they feel like a good fitting pair of boots I've had for years. Out of the box probably the most comfortable boots I've ever put on. Absolutely not break -in required. I guess the field test which I will put them through tomorrow will tell the story better. But for now, they feel great, look great and appear very well made. If you're looking for a new pair of upland boots I'd recommend you give them a try.

Field test report coming later.

I walked almost non-stop for nearly 6 hours yesterday in my brand new Irish Setter Havoc Upland boots. They are definately keepers. And for those of you that have followed my attempt to find the right boots you will know that is quite a statement from me. They were very comfortable and provided good support. Were my feet somewhat sore at the end of the day? Heck at 66 my feet are going to be sore after walking all afternoon no matter what I have on them. :)

Upland/Big Game

Guys -

Hoping someone can help clarify what the main differences are between an Upland Boot & a Big Game Boot with regards to construction, sole, etc.

Thanks.

I can't tell you the exact differences but I tried the Big Game Havoc first and didn't care for it. Send them back and got the Upland Havoc. There is a huge difference in the boots. At least in how they felt on my feet. The Upland is one of the most comfortable boots I've ever had. But then my feet are getting a little fickle as I age. :)

I noticed that this thread started last year. Any updates now that you have had them for a little while? Still like them? How are they holding up? These boots are noninsulated correct? Any problems in the snow/cold weather or a good pair of socks takes care of it? Thanks

Still lovin' them. Extremely comfortable. No issues at all. They are wearing and holding up great. I do clean them frequently and use Obenauf's on them. No problems in the snow with traction. They are uninsulated and in real cold weather I sometimes wished they had some insulation. I send Irish Setter a message on how well I liked the boots. My only recommendation was that they also made an insulated boot in the Upland Havoc with 200-400 gr. of insulation.
