Hunters

I've been referred to as a "chicken hunter" more times than I can count. My dog jumped a winged hen mallard on the edge of a cut and flooded rice field and proceeded to to make a 75yd retrieve through the chest deep water. Guy was watching from his quad (yeah he was to lazy for the 100yd walk to the blind) and came over to claim "his" duck. He was berating his lab (overweight) for being showed up by a lowly "chicken dog". JP and I had a good laugh about that one.:D

I do both waterfowl and upland and have not seen it this way. On average waterfowlers met while out hunting are more respectful then upland hunters

Why do duck hunters always think thier better than a pheasant hunter?

Ducks are native and natural, pheasants aren't.
I hunt ducks and pheasant. I'll take pheasant hunting.

Regardless, there are tools in every sport. I think the sport draws some people that maybe would be like that whether or not they hunted. Have you seen some of the high end duck clubs? I know in some of the prime areas in and around Urich, a good blind could lease for 10k a year. A little out of my price range, even split 2-3 ways. I like to hunt ducks and do so 2-3 times a year, down from 2-3 times a week when I was younger. I think there are more " meat and potato" type guys that hund upland. But I have run into my share of tools out hunting birds too.

I think on of the issues are the pheasant hunting shows. They make pheasant hunting look to be such an easy sport since all the kill shots are pen raised birds getting up right in front of the shooter, rather than wild birds flying 100 of yards away.

I duck hunt also but love upland hunting more, and out of my buddies im the only one to seem to do it. I beleive that quail hunting is more natural then ducks. I' ve just been at some conventions and meetings and the duck hunters I see there have little respect for the sport of upland along with upland pointing labs.
