How many seasons have you hunted Pheasants?

Thinking about the upcoming pheasant season I got to counting just how many seasons I've been chasing ringnecks. My first season in the field with a gun was in 1956 at 10 years of age. So this year would be the 54th season, less two years (1968 & 1969) when I was toting a rifle for Uncle Sam instead of a shotgun. So I guess this will be the 52nd for me and I still love it. I've hunted most every upland bird and waterfowl, as well as turkeys, antelope, deer, elk and moose. But if I had to select just one critter to hunt it would be, without doubt, the Pheasant. Hope you all can enjoy as many seasons as I've had. However, I have no plans for quiting any time soon.

Everyone have a great season.

I'm 42 and started walking with DAD when I was 6. First gun at 11 so I'm at 31 years of chasing Roosters and love it more each year especially since I was able to go to SD 5 years ago.

It was November 1955, I was 21 and getting ready for discharge 3 Dec.,1955 from the Navy. I was stationed at NAS Minneapolis. Some of my buddies on the base were going Pheasant Hunting. They had a Buddy with a Lab. I went out with them a several times before my discharge and after. But that was it, I addicted and have not missed hunting season since. Injury has cut a few of my seasons short......Bob

52 consecutive in SD. In '66 I shot only two or three as there were not many in the area I went to college and not many had a car.

I'm 29, dad took me for the first time when I was in 5th grade just to walk and observe. Went when I was in 6th grade to walk again, the farmer we were hunting with convinced dad to let me carry his SXS 20 guage and block some fields with him. The second or third field a rooster came over, I let him have it with the first barrel and missed, then the second barrel and he fell in a heavy fence row. Didn't find the bird, but from then on I got to carry the gun while walking. Have hunted many places throughout Kansas, missed a couple seasons when I was 19 or 20 due to lack of a decent place to hunt and lack of bird numbers, but hit it harder than ever now.

I am 48. Been hunting since I was 6 or so. Last 16 years in Idaho. This will be my first visit to KS this year. Hunted Iowa about 20 years ago around State center had a great time. Hope KS will be fun too.

Turned 69 last month:10 seasons in ND, 5 years off, 12 seasons in Iowa, last 23 years in SD. First season in ND 11 years old, carrying a single shot 12 gauge Montgomery Ward. Still get that tingling sensation up my leg this time of the year. Good Luck and safe season to everyone this year!

There were a number of years in the 80's that I actually gave up trying to hunt the birds, but I believe I've got a string of 20 years now. Unfortunately, the string is probably going to be broken this year due to some health reasons. I'll be headed to Rochester next Monday and probably won't be home until after the 1st of the year, but plan on being back full bore next year.

Guess I'll be watching this site quite a bit this fall. Won't be same, but it's better than nothing.

Dewey, You'll be back at it soon and good luck.

I'm an old hand at bird hunting. 1962 I was 12 when my uncle had me tag along.
Trapped gophers and Muskrats and bought a pump 12 gauge. The next year I hunted and killed my 1st pheasants. Was I hooked? To say the least. Now I've hunted 7 states for pheasants and some 120 out of state trips. Haven't slowed down yet.

Seventeen Seasons of Upland Hunting

Started at age 11 and hunted two seasons then. Resumed hunting at age 42 in '91 and hunted all but two seasons since. Total of 17 seasons I think.

Another question is, how many days per season do you hunt? Not everyone can get out like others. I am fortunate in being able to get out nearly every weekend during the regular KS season from the second Sat. in Nov. to Jan. 31. Some years I'll head to the Dakotas or Nebraska for a weekend before KS opens.

This will be my 35th year chasing pheasants. We still had a few birds here in Michigan when I started hunting but now it's rare to see one along the road where I live. Oh, there are still some pockets of birds. I've been running my lab pup on some state game areas and have put up pheasants each time out. Nothing like SD though, sure am looking forward to bringing the pup out for the opener.
