How did I miss?

Nice video. Hard to say, but I would guess high and behind.

I would say you shot over the top of the bird. Cheek to stock when mounting, if one looks at the bird over the barrel when mounting, always shoot over the top.

I say behind. I think the tree on the left caused you to stop your follow through short.

big miss

bet ya saw the trees coming into view and took your eyes off the bird and looked at the trees. lucky your dog didn't bite ya. neat scene just he same, didn't know setters pointed. just kidding

Setternut, nice video. All I can say is bend over and give yourself a good swift kick in the behind! Thanks for posting.:)

Looks to me like just as you pulled the trigger he started flying away from you more than quartering. You shot where he would have been had he kept quartering the way he was but alas he had a trick up his sleeve.:D

I am pretty sure that I know how and why I missed.
When flushing the bird I had stepped up the hill with my left foot, and the bird came up well to my left. I did not move my feet, and then didn't mount the gun correctly. The gun never got to my face, and I shot high.

There really were not many more things I could have done wrong on this shot

This was a better shot.

I think Quail hound nailled it. I'd say you missed only slightly to the left, because the bird was more going away than crossing at the point you shot! That good looking Setter dog looks like he's doing his share! Nice videos thanks for sharing! Man I'm so hoping for next year to be better for the birds!

That's what it looked like to me too. I have a terrible time with the shot that starts out quartering and then straightens out. Unfortunately, it is all too common of a shot.:(

Maybe a bit high too, I can't tell, but it sure looks like you are leading him where he isn't going.

Looks to me like you stopped swinging the gun.

Are you using a gopro head mount? Can you pm me what software are you using to edit video? I like the slow motion.

Hard to really tell the vertical as the camera appears to to be looking from above the barrel plane. It appeared to me that you started out on a good line with the bird and then at the last second seemed to pull in front too much as the shot was triggered.

Steve. How was your camera mounted? To a hat? Wing shots should wear their hat like Babe Ruth not Derek Jeter. Being able to see the bill of your hat in your peripheal has an ill efect on your shooting.

It is on my forehead. There is an elastic head band. I tried it with a hat on but it let the camera move more when I walk.

Some of the video is image stabilize by You Tube. But when you do it, the clearness of the video is reduce. For example in the raw video you can see Ace backing clearly, but in the posted video he is blurry.

But I have had a good time with the GoPro. But you get to see the good, the bad and the ugly of each hunt ;)

I see. Love the vids, keep them coming. We have to take the bad with the good and those pesky quail can surely make us scratch our heads sometimes.

I need to make a highlight video of points, flushes and shots for the year.
There are a couple of points that Ace had on hens that were really good.

There is also a cool passing shot a friend made on a sage grouse that flushed and flew a big circle and flew back by him. Hit it with a 28 ga, and it flew 100 yards and died in the air, crashing down in a valley.
