How’s your shooting been?

Not me, I'm not paying any of those people a dime, it isn't necessary. Pheasant hunting has become way too commercialized in my opinion.Every swinging dick on the planet is trying to make a buck off it. I actually saw an advertisement for some Gucci pheasant hunting blind.

My lay-ups that I’ve missed are straight aways that are actually drifting left or right and I’m not accounting for it…I usually do, but I’ve been fooled several times…have to work harder on that.

So my problem is I can’t hit hens. My only option within 200 miles is the Wyoming state run release sites, which is a good opportunity to get my grandson out and get the dogs some work. The state releases roosters and hens. They have been doing it for over 50 years now. I grew up hunting in Nebraska and it’s engrained in me to not shoot hens I guess. My grandson and I generally try to just shoot the roosters with the hope the a hen might survive knowing full well that less than 1%will probably make it. I much prefer hunting wild birds but there are none in Southeast WY and non left in western NE. Heading to SD after thanksgiving, hunt public land

Unless there is something essential missing in the soil or there is something toxic to them present, I wonder why they can't get established. I can see how that would be tough.
 
My left to right shooting hasn't been good all year. Right to left has been pretty good, and straight away has been average.
 
On my last trip, I shot really well for quail and pheasants for 2.5 days on a 3 day hunt. I did miss one pheasant but that was all for the trip. It was one of those times that I doubted my dog and ended up missing three times badly. Other than that I killed every pheasant that I shot at and shot 40% on quail for the trip. It would have been better but the last afternoon, I was late and behind on almost every bird. Perhaps I was tired or my mind was in a bad place but damn!!! The good news is, there will be more opportunities coming up soon.
 
Shooting has been quite sufficient for me this year. It's been 3 weeks since my last outing due to some other trips, but that will be remedied on Thursday. Total for the season thus far is 11 roosters on 18 shells. No birds have been lost, and no birds that I have shot at have flown away, though some have obviously taken the second barrel. Only 2 of my 11 have been cripples, the rest were dead when they hit the ground.
