My son and I are excited to go hunting with kansasbrittany. Hope my pup gets along with his dogs. It is really cold but hopefully the birds hold tight so my son and I can get our first pheasant ever.:D

Good luck EG, your son is probably better shot than KB :p

Have a great hunt with your son EG and Kansas Brittany--Attaboy for helping facilitate this trip.

Good luck out there and hope to hear some good reports of yours and your sons first birds. You are going to be in good company with KSB. Hope you enjoy your time afield no matter what you come back with. Sometimes it isn't the physical things that make a day like today for you so enjoyable. I bet by days end you with have two tired pups:)

You will definitely enjoy it, I promise. I hunted the second of my two day trip with him a few weeks back and we had a blast and I met some really good folks. Hopefully you'll get to get the bird I missed as we were heading back to the truck to end the day! That damned bird still haunts me! Hmmm, come to think of it, I haven't checked to see if barrel is straight since then, hehe. Seriously though, if the one of the little Britts locks up, get ready, there WILL be a bird! Let me know how you guys did.

a great day...

It started slow but by the afternoon the action got hot. I can not believe it but I shot not just one but 2 pheasants on this trip. KB was one quail killing machine. I think he was the only person that was hitting the quails. The best thing about the day was when kb winged a quail and it landed and took off running. I sent my dog to fetch it and she ran almost 75 yards and jumped right in a bush where the quail went in. I thought she lost the quail but 3 seconds later jumped out with kb's quail in her mouth. I was really proud of my baby on that retrieve. That was her first retrieve ever. I have just been working with her this past week on retrieving and she went way beyond what I expected. So pickles and I were able to do something for the first time and it worked out way better than I would of expected.

Thanks kb for a real memorable day. I will upload up some pics when I can get a chance this week.

I owe you and your friends a beer when you are in Salina the next time.

Next time we will try to get my son his first pheasant.

That is really good to hear. I don't think that these birds will be easily forgotten. Sounds like both man and beast had a good time afield, both passing the expectations set by one another. Don't feel too bad for not hitting quail your first time out as it usually takes a bit to really get them dialed in. Hope todays memories and birds are just the building blocks of many more to come. Keep working at it and in no time you will be able to return the favor to someone else new to our great passion. Oh yeah and don't let KB fool ya he doesn't always get that "lucky" with those quial:D

I look forward to seeing the pics....I have some but I was too tired to do anything w/ them last night. I'm impressed with your 8mo old Brit! Several solid points and generally in the middle of the action all day. The retrieve you're referring to was one of the many highlights of the day, but seeing you take those 2 birds was my highlight.

I also liked the retrieve that "grampa" made on the rooster I winged. We had all 5 dogs helping track the running bird when one locked up. The bird ran out of a clump of grass w/ the dogs and humans in hot pursuit. "Grampa" tripped over a clump of grass, swirled around to land on his back and suddenly we couldn't see the bird. I thought grampa took a fall for nothing while he was lying there moaning, but Bret reached under his back and pulled out my rooster. This was good for a laugh.

Your boy....now that's a neat kid. I hope to have many more opportunities to hunt with you both and I most certainly would like to be there for his first rooster. He's very respectful and complimentary. His gun safety practices are flawless (one of those other boys should've been taking notes:rolleyes:).

Some folks may think I'm a little crazy for hunting w/ complete strangers, but yesterday was probably the most enjoyable/rewarding hunt of the season. I met a man and a boy that I expect to have a long-term friendship with. Our experience yesterday makes me a "rich" man this morning;)

I'll post my pics too but it will be a couple days.

That sounds like a great day with fun had by all. KB you sound like a true class act and a great ambassador for the sport of hunting. I look forward to seeing the pics from your hunt.

He is definitely a class act! Chad, please tell me that one of those birds was that last one I missed?!?!?!?!? I could really use some cosure! hehehehe

Sorry buddy, but I seriously doubt he traveled from where we were all the way up to Concordia. Corey and I may get a shot at him next Monday....this late in the season I'm pretty well dialed in and Corey doesn't miss much so if he flies, we'll get him for ya;)

Thanks for the kind words KB, although I haven't shot a shotgun in a bit now. I shoot while flying so this whole shooting at things flying away from me may be a little rough at first. We will try to bring some closure to this ghost bird for sure though.

I've heard that God does not deduct from one's allotted time, those hours spent hunting. While that wouldn't be a bonus if true......there's nothing I'd rather do with my allotted time.

As usual, I was too wrapped up in the action to get a photo of it, but whatever...we had a blast and here are the smiling photos I have to share. I am getting in the habit of taking the camera to the field, so I'm confident the next step will be to use it:rolleyes:

Yup

KB was kind enough to come meet up with me on my trip last year. I had a great time, and I learned a lot.
