  • Consider the birds have been harassed and choused for "weeks" now, and nine out of ten hunters pull in the same parking area/spot and get out and hunt it in very similar ways. Try approaching an area different somehow, hunt it different than others probably do. Maybe walk quietly down the road to the other end, and hunt back toward your rig, or park a hundred yards or so back and sneek in. Anything that might be a "change up" from what they have seen/heard.
They're scattered and RUNNING hard. Some weather would improve the hunting immensely.
best o luck! and let me know how you do:thumbsup:
your pm box "has exceeded it's storage limit".. c/p my reply here for you..

    hey steve,
got your text, but I'm.... technically challenged in the phone area I guess. I couldn't figure it out. Sorry. But I couldn't have been any help in the Liberal area question anyway.
Though I was in Hugoton (30 miles from Liberal) Mon.-Thursday about noon. Most of the "group" left early Wed morning. We coulda' used another shotgun..;) dangit...
Are/were you hunting alone? Public?.. The conditions are terrible, and birds are skittish AND educated. I wish we coulda' hooked up :(
Only suggestions I have, be as quiet as possible. No door slamming, yacking, whistling, farting, or discussing, on site. Have a plan, pull in, get out and GO hunting.
Man, that sounds great. It brings an entire new perspective to the hunt, when you're behind your "very own" dog. There will be times they will make you feel like your kid just scored the winning touchdown in a championship game, then they'll turn right around and be the kid that dropped a turd in the swimming pool!... Do you have a facility similar to rmr around Dallas?.. "IMO" there's nothing better than "showing them game" to promote their skills. I don't know a lot about training 'pointers'.
I didn't get a LOT of pictures, a few. I'll mail 'em along w/ a short video of the 9 yr old kid I got to take solo. He was having it ruff trying to keep up w/ the "big kids". We had a little time Sat. afternoon, so I took him out alone in a pivot corner. Got up 7 roosters, 5 in shotgun range. He got 3 shots, but failed to connect. (dammit) :p
A new DOG!!! FAAAAANTASTIC! Are you buying a trained/started dog? Or gonna' train her yourself?
I shot my 20G all weekend. Didn't get a chance to try those PS yet. Maybe this next week ;)
I'm guessing I should have a chance to hit rmr between T-day and Xmas.
    We'll keep in touch.
    Hiya Steve!
Sorry for the lack of communications. Just been a li'l bust.
We had a great trip to KS, limited out 24 hunters by noon on Saturday. The "big group" hunt isn't exactly my type of hunt. But it is FUN once or twice a year.
I'm planning a solo hunt, looking like just me 'n the grandson at this point. Planning on driving down on Sunday before Thanksgiving and returning on Wednesday.
We will probably hunt around Leoti, Scott City area. I don't know if it's possible, feasable. But you're invited! :)
