Feeding Time

Depends.
Normally a small handfull in the early A.M. and a full floated feed at dinner time on a trip.
If a dog is first out when hunting, then possibly no feed in the morn...but I do like the opportunity to float a handful in water for hydration and a bit of oomph.
At home, same only dry.
Whether to morning feed or not is always a decision with seldom any consensus....it can be a bad deal done wrong and some dogs benefit energy-wise if they have/had sugar issues.
Just be alert to any consequences with the actions we take with a dog.

Had a friend's dog lost to torsion last Fall on a trip....best to watch heavy eaters coupled with energetic dogs for signs of problems.
Time is of the essense....and bloat permits no dithering.

I feed about a half hour after im done hunting. Give the dog some time to cool down and relax. No food in the morning dog seams to hunt better and stay cooler on an empty stomach.

you will get as many answers to this as there are possible combinations. I give mine a small bit in the morning, sometimes a snack at lunch, then whatever he will eat at nite. I can't keep weight on him as it is and like most dogs he won't hardly eat while on a trip. I usually bring some canned food with a gravy to pour over dry. That usually works pretty well

During the week: a ration in the morning and one in the evening.

Hunting weekend: all he wants the evening before a hunt; nothing in the a.m.; all he wants after a day afield.

I agree 100%. I feed mine once a day in the late afternoon or early evening all year long. I don't want fresh food in them when they are hunting or running trials.

After the hunt. I give him plenty of water during the day and a high-quality snack of some kind before we head home.

I also feed mine once per day in the evening all year long. It seems that dogs fed before a hunt have the squirts all day long from what I have seen.
