I think they were calling this the "Sand creek" fire. Near Wetmore. It was started by lightening strike on a Tuesday and per USFS policy, allowed to burn as a "controlled burn".
A policy that I can't agree with, during a "red flag warning" conditions.
But the weather service was correct in their well forecasted, expectations, of 40+ mph winds, with gust of over 60 mph expected on Friday. To their dismay, the fire jumped the fire break, and nearlly burned through a residential community.
The first picture is from early friday morning, before the winds really kicked up. Then a couple as I was evacuating. The last two are 'after the fact', on Saturday evening.
