Drought Index

Federal disaster declaration sought for 21 Kansas counties due to drought. My heavens, I sure wish we could send this torrential rain 300 miles west! All of Missouri is soaked with flooding and levies in peril.

Colorado winter wheat crop condition is significantly worse than last year, due to a dry winter and spotty germination last fall. Eighty-three percent of the crop is in Very Poor to Fair Condition.

Not exactly on topic w/ the drought index OP, but since you asked bleu'...

I think they were calling this the "Sand creek" fire. Near Wetmore. It was started by lightening strike on a Tuesday and per USFS policy, allowed to burn as a "controlled burn". A policy that I can't agree with, during a "red flag warning" conditions.
But the weather service was correct in their well forecasted, expectations, of 40+ mph winds, with gust of over 60 mph expected on Friday. To their dismay, the fire jumped the fire break, and nearlly burned through a residential community.
The first picture is from early friday morning, before the winds really kicked up. Then a couple as I was evacuating. The last two are 'after the fact', on Saturday evening.

Thanks for sharing !!!!! Was worried when I heard where it was! Is it starting to green up yet around there?????

Finally some thunder and some rain tonight!!! They are predicting 2-3 inches of rain by Thursday!!!! Maybe a little snow rain mix in the morning!!! With the runoff taking off the river might not be crossable for my Turkey hunting adventures after this rain!!!! But I like the Rain!!!

The 6 or so inches of snow that we got the day "after" the fire went through, really kick started things. What ain't black, is turning green!..:p

This will change for us on the front range, as we received almost 3 inches of rain on the 11th and 12th!!!!:10sign:

Thank you Bleu, The one you have been posting will been fine.

Winter is not going to end up there. Wyoming is getting slamed with snow and rain. Colorado is getting slamed with the same and both states and others need a break from the snow.

I can't remember when the flooding from snow pack has been this bad.

I am happy for the farmers in eastern Colorado, But I think it might be to much at the wrong time. Hope I'm wrong.:)

Could we be getting too much rain out east?? Any word from some easterners? When do those little rascals start hatching? Should be soon, right?

I believe June is when most of our chicks Hatch!! We have not had too much rain in pheasant country in eastern CO. We do not need the Hail though!!! If the first clutch is unsuccessful ,the hen will keep trying until one clutch hatches or she runs out of time. I think we are o.k. here and could use a little more rain out East, just not 3 inches at a time.

Can't figure this out!! We are a little over an inch above now!!! Maybe it doesn't reflect it yet!!!
