Heading to western Kansas tomorrow for a pond-side evening dove hunt. Pulling out of Hoxie Sunday morning for Crested Butte to seek the elusive dusky grouse. Frankly, there aren't many around CB, but we enjoy our first walk with guns and dogs of the season anyway. Will then turn my attention to the trout.

Good luck, that sounds like fun.
I may get out for some dove this weekend, but looking forward to PC season.

It's a cast and blast w/e for me too BC! Good luck with the grouse and trout...I've never shot/caught either of those. Dove hunting should be great everywhere. After 15 of those it's onto a soccer game in Manhattan, then out to catch bass and crappie to fill the freezer for winter (expecting stupid-high beef prices:eek:).

A long walk in search of PC's sounds pretty good too. The dogs will be thrilled to get out there even if we don't see many.

Brit, from CB to Aspen is some of the Best in the State! Ptarmigan starts next week and there are a few spots around CB for that as well!! Good luck!!

I'll be out at first light with some friends and my kids hoping for some doves. After that I'll be headed to kick off the football season. More dove hunting saturday and sunday.

Next weekend will be youth deer season for my 13 year old and 11 year old.

Thank you for that info! With our 4x4s we can get on that road between CB and Aspen.

Update: My huntin' buddy in Hoxie just called to say hardly any doves there - they took off when it was cool. He's making one last water hole scout this evening. If it is negative, it's straight Crested Butte Sat. a.m. Still very pumped and excessively itchy trigger finger syndrome present.

My 13yr old son and I will be over near the Gunnison area chasing dusky grouse tomorrow as well. Not going to deal with all the yahoos out at the SWA's here in Colorado, it is insane:eek::mad:

doves

wish they let us shoot doves in MI. for as broke as the state is im sure that they could make some money off of the license sales

It has been raining for about 5 hours straight in JoCo, oh well, I will take the water over the doves at this point!

Oh the suspense is killing me. Someone report how they did today and what they saw. I have to live my hunting via your stories/posts since they dont seem to offer much in the way of hunting here in Dubai.

We it is a rain out here, after 100 days of drought, the hurricane got here and rain 6 inches over night. Cooler temperatures, might send the doves else where, and believe me there were thousands this year, as apposed to recent years. I'm sure getting rained out here, would be heaven, rather than in the dark and dangerous parts of the world. Let the time go fast, we'll save some for you. We hope to be out tommorrow, and I will give a report.

We went out this morning for 4 hours. There were 8 of us, hunting around a sunflower field.

It was not bad but not the best I have seen. The group shot 49 doves.
It looks like my crappy shooting that started up last season has gone away. I shot 10 doves in 16 shots.

If I can get the tailgate pic off my phone I will post it.

I would take crappy shooting right about now. I look forward to the pics and I look most forward to your pc hunt stories later this month.

Here is the end of the day pic. My son, future SIL and I are on the right side.

I can't wait to get the dogs out hunting. Got Early PC and then off to Montana for my first out of state hunt ever.

Rained here the last two days with the hurricane. Kind of cleared off this evening and went for a drive around the local conservation area trying to scout a little for the morning. Didn't see many birds, but did bump a huge covey of quail as I was trying to sneak up on a dove in a dead tree.

Gonna do some hunting tomorrow close to home and then hit the good spots with my buddy Monday.

Limited in 2hrs yesterday morning. 2 friends came along and shot 10 apiece. We all shot LOTS of shells and shared some laughs at the last shooter's expense. We had pretty steady action through the first hour, then all hell broke loose. We had several waves of birds come over the field where all 50 or so guns unloaded. Took the family out to watch the evening shoot and there were still quite a few birds being shot. The dogs found lots of birds in the grass/weeds when everyone was done.

The mornings have been perfect weather-wise. Lots of dew on the grass, 66 degrees, big n' bright full moon, the smell of gun-powder and the whimpers of a GSP ready to start the fall bird-marathon:)

The boys and I went out this morning, though not as early. Today there were only 2 other guys there, but the birds had already learned better. A few were shot by a guy w/ a Mojo, but the boys and spent our time walking the dogs around picking up yesterday's "lost" birds. Tate found 7 in an hour this morning. I can only imagine how many we would've found had we searched the rest of the property. I was checked 3 times this w/e. One CO was glassing the place. I wonder if he gave out any wanton waste tickets?

I too have a tailgate pic I'll post when I get it downloaded.

I hope Dubai is treating you well my friend:cheers:

It rained all day sat where I was at in Clinton Mo. Still had fun. Buddy has a little farm down there and they had planted a couple of acres of sunflowers next to a duck lake they have. We saw a hundred or so on thursday while I was helping with some chores. Sat in the rain sat and saw about a dozen. Did manage to shoot 4 before I got soaked. This is always my luck with doves. Always seems something happens to run them off before we can hunt them. Still a fun weekend relaxing with some good food and not much work.
