Dove destinations

Maynard,

Did not know that you could move so fast.:p You may want to get the Blood Pressure checked:)

Thanks for the head's up/reminder on the rattlers guys! They're all over our fine state and pretty tough to see in the cover this time of year (at least on this side of the state). Some don't even rattle so it's important to keep your eyes peeled:eek::eek:

Maynard,

My hired hand is a big man and does not get excited often and is used to the rattlesnakes and kills all he encounters with no problem. This is only the second time in six years I have seen him excited. The first was him yelling in the ranch headquarters, "Maynard, Maynard, Maynard!" and I answered, "What, what, what?" to which he replies, "The roof's on fire!" Well he saved the day on the fire. I would guess another two minutes and we would have lost the battle.

My hand said as I walked around the diesel tank and up to the engine he thought he heard a rattlesnake and then when I stepped up to start the engine the pitch of the buzz changed and he knew there was one close and I had just stirred it up.

Twice my hand saved the day. Tomorrow he gets a gift card to the steak house.

Maynard,

It’s been hard to run across a Rattlesnake this year in Oklahoma. At first, I thought that the feral hogs got their fare share. But now like you indicated, I think they are holding close to the dens because of the drought conditions.

Thats funny I was talking to an old farmer out in ness city this weekend and he was talking about how few he has killed this year says it is always in the 40-50 a year and he only killed 11 this year.

My buddy just calle and said the conservation area we hunt here in Missouri has mature sunflowers on it, so I'm sure they'll be harvested before the 1st. Said as he drove by the field there were quite a few flying into it. Might not kill any pheasants this year, but we'll shoot some doves for sure I guess.

I am so hungry for Chicken Annie's I might just have to hop in the truck and make a road trip. Pick me up a good supply of Frontenac Bakery bread. Might even take some pictures of the old house in Frontenac(if no one was watching) to show my sons. Oh, and isn't dove season open year round in Frontenac?;):)

Well M.R. you knew I couldn't resist a comment on the "open all season" jibe. That's a good one, I had a nice insider laugh. Wonder if Dove Breast on toasted Frontenac Bakery bread would be a nice snack. We could call it the "Joey" sandwich! Serve with a shot of bootleg whiskey.

I've heard the rumors, but not sure how it all ties in to dove season. :)

I only live about 7 miles east and a couple miles north of the chicken shacks. I like going for the fried chicken, the breasts are perfect sized, not the monster chickens that you buy at the store. Wife doesn't care for fried chicken though, so I'm limited in how often we get to go.

Sounds good to me, other than the moonshine since I quit the stuff over thirty years ago.

I used to get the chicken wishbone meal. I really like the German potato salad and the German coleslaw, but would usually get spaghetti as one of my sides. Loved the fresh breaded onion rings using Frontenac Bakery bread and of course the Frontenac Bakery Italian hardcrust. Man, am I hungry for some SE Kansas food.

No rumors, just the facts.

I use the breasts only, use mushroom soup to make a gravy, serve over rice or on toast if deboned. Otherwise quit a lot like the old carp recipe joke, boil thoroughly with a 2x4, when done throw the dove away and eat the 2x4! Do doves ever stop bleeding while frying?

there are a few nice places to hunt over cut corn fields- just southwest of the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant- look up the Niese's

I have a good receipt- calls for Kentucky Burbon

I actually work at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, we are trying to clean it up. I will see if I can figure out the Niese family.

Thanks,

Rut

located them last evening, just hope they stay put, with allthe corn cut, disce,or just mowed down, those little gray birds have their choice of fields.
Must of saw 500-600 just on the road, with groups of 10-20 flying all around,160 acres of disc corn, with 160 acres of shelled corn accros the road.
It will be fun
