Dog Ashes

The last 3 dogs that I have had to put down I have had cremated and they are sitting on the shelf in my entertainment center. I feel I should really do something with them. Only thing I can think of is taking them out to one of my hunting spots on a windy day and letting them go. Just wondering what anyone else had done with their dog's ashes.

George,

Never thought about cremation for a dog... I remember them with photo's. Casting the remains in the wind sounds like a good idea.

Ive heard of guys putting the ashes inside decoys for those that duck hunt. Heard of upland hunters putting them inside spent shotgun shells and carrying them on their vests.

Sounds perfect. It's what I want done with my own ashes - cast to the wind.

Have same at my home---that are going to be mixed with mine when the time comes and spread or stored together--and hopefully spread in South Dakota at in a favorite tree line--

When my old male passes I am going to have his ashes in a box of reloaded shells. Same with me when I go. I want both of our ashes mixed together so we can continue to hunt with my son.

How about planting a tree or shrub with the remains in the dirt around it George? My old Jack Russell is in my back yard under a beautiful oak tree I planted for her. This is my Harley girl's final resting place (excuse the weeds in the butterfly garden, summer makes you neglect those kinds of things).

All great ideas. I really like the idea of planting tree and spreading the ashes around it. It would be nice to look at the tree and remember your old hunting buddy.

Ashes from past hunting partners were scattered in favorite, memorable hunting covers. My Jack Russell's are buried in the back yard, which was "Her" favorite place. Either my ashes or those of my current bird dog will be saved and then mixed together and be placed or spread wherever my Kids see fit - hunting spots, Montana, or a favorite place of their choosing. Who knows - they may want to visit. They definitely won't be in a cemetery plot that someone will have to tend.

Scattered the remains of Maggie, my GSP in a public hunting spot out in SD. Cried like a baby but felt to remember all the good times we had in the field. I sure miss that dog!

I had a well known decoy carver in New Jersey make me a hollow goose decoy and put some ashes of Tag in it. He is the only dog I've had cremated thus far.

I've got remains of my last 3 dogs on my bedroom dresser. When I go, I will be cremated too and all the dogs remains will be buried with our remains in our family cemetery.
