SD FIELD CROPS REPORT as of August 30th
Ninety percent of corn is at or beyond dough stage, 26
percentage points above the previous year and 8 percentage
points above the five-year average. Fifty-three percent is at
the dent stage, above the 5 year-average of 42 percent. Corn
is estimated at 2 percent mature, 1 percentage point behind the
five-year average. Harvesting of corn silage began last week,
and is 7 percent complete compared to 2 percent last year.
Seventeen percent of soybeans are dropping leaves, 5 points
ahead of the five-year average of 12 percent. Sunflowers
advanced 19 percentage points in the ray flowers dry stage,
now estimated at 35 percent. Sorghum is 63 percent coloring,
a 23 percentage point jump from last week. Producers have
planted 4 percent of the winter wheat, which is equal to the
previous year.
