C'mon Rain

Some much needed moisture last night in some areas that really needed it. I stayed up till 1:30 a.m. and made sure the storms held together and even new storms popped up late. Next couple of days looks even brighter for some drought relief. This moisture will help, but it still needs to keep raining in the region for improvement. Hopefully the hail will be minimal , but not likely. I did not post this weeks drought monitor in the Colorado forum as there was little change in the region.

I thought for sure we were going to get some rain here last night but it just sprinkled. My lawn is yellow, the next step before turning brown.

It's shaping up to be another very dry year. I think it may be drier now than it was this time last year.

Hopefully you will catch some in the next few days. This should really help out West. Saturday looks to be better for NE Kansas and even through Monday and maybe Tuesday!

Rain looks good for the panhandle region, now if we can get some in SW OK

The Accuweather guys have been predicting the return of El Nino this summer 2014.

It appears the El Nino signal is already kicking in. That moisture now falling in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and S.W. Kansas is coming from the S. Pacific riding over Mexico, typical El Nino. See map:

This should continue into June, July and August off and on, we have not seen this since 2010. The moisture adds up to green vegetation (nesting cover) and insects of the chicks.
We can still have a good quail and pheasant hatch.

Were barely above average in April, now back to the dry ways. Looked good earlier today, storms fell apart right before they got here, Hope the El Nino pattern continues.

it helps to get a low that gets cut off and doesn't move, pulling that moisture up and into the region for 3-4 days.

I've only had .52 overall thus far. Hope to get a canoe ride in the ditch:)

I needed one last night. Maybe a big boat!! It came down @ 3.5 inches an hour. A lot of hard work re establishing river banks from last Sept flood may have been washed away. Some areas of town received 5 inches. Mosquitos are gonna be tough this year....

Ah Bleu, another May snow will probably take the mosquito population back down:) That's what you've got trout for anyway! Yeah, it would be nice if it would come even across the map. Guess that would mess up the folks with deserts and tropical forests though:)

We got 2.25" yesterday, the timing could not have been better for us.
We got 20 acres of Alfalfa with a 30' buffer of milo around it, planted Thursday.

Was out yesterday digging post holes and even after what rain we recieved here, the ground was bone dry 1 inch down. Powdery and dusty.

If we don't get some subtantial rain I'm afraid I may lose my pond this summer. It's 13-14 foot deep in the middle when full.
