Choke combo in 16 ga. sxs

Precisely put! McIntosh, EJ Churchhill, Jack O'Connor, and a host of great shooters and writers agree:10sign:

Uncle Buck tends to agree tho botH my sxs 16s are IC/MOD, fixed, and it works for me. I have the Franchi Destino 20 with screw ins and if I get a crack at quail will have skeet/IC in there.

Last three birds I shot this year were with 20 ga. 1oz loads ic and none of 'em even twitched tho close shots.

I shoot skeet and IC. Use to shoot Mod & Full but made the switch this year and shoot a lot more birds. Im hunting with a flusher and have no problems. I think more people would benifit from a more open choke.

I fully agree Tbear. There are some guys I pheasant hunt with that just won't buy into it. They shoot 12 ga. autos with Mod choke and 3" #4's. I shoot IC in a 16 ga. with #6 shot. In my 16 ga. Citori I shoot either Skeet/IC or IC/Mod.

I'm a LM/Mod/IM or Mod/Full guy myself. I never had much luck with more open chokes. To each his own, use what works for you.

I've been telling myself for a year now that I'm going to buy an AyA 4/53 in 16 guage, fixed chokes, and they're going to be IC/M. I like a more open choke typically. Murphy's law always comes into play though, when I've got open, the birds are far, when I'm tight, the birds jump at my feet. You never can win.

That said, what did I carry opening weekend in Kansas this year? 63 year old Ithaca 37 20 guage, choked extremely full. Every bird that was in range went down.

AYA makes a lot of guns for the American market IC/M. Years ago it was M/F

my 4/53 20 ga. is IC/M, but the gunsmith who I had measure it called it a tight IC and a tight M...I may have the right barrel opened a bit to SK1....

How do you like that 4/53? Always wanted a decent side by side, does this qualify? Thinking 16 guage just to be different.

Love the 4/53....I also have 2 Ugartechea s x s's in 16 gauge...love them as well, especially the Aspen Outfitting Company version (AOC/SG BOXLOCK)...smitten with these Spanish ladies!
