Carrying Water

Last year saw a group of hunters that had a 10" (or so) PVC pipe the width of dog box, capped on both ends, with a valve coming out the bottom and a short hose. Thought this pretty slick, would work good for watering the dogs and end of the day cleanup.

Anybody else got any good ideas similar to this, or any watchouts? One fear would be it freezing up if the temps got really cold. My hunting buddy happens to own a stainless fabrication business, he told me to figure out what we wanted and he might be able to make it happen when his partners weren't looking....
 
I have seen such a contraption in Gun Dog magazine a time or two and thought one would be great to have. As far as freezing I do not know but you might be able to wrap it in something perhaps to prevent it from freezing.
 
if you wrap it in 12 volt heat tape and plug it into your trailer plug it will not freeze unless the temps get seriously in the negatives

been arouond awhile and have good ideas on how to make things happen and yea buddy i am very busy and things don't look to slow down any in the near future but we are definately going to hunt this year
 
oh yeh, I have heard that before. Take care, oh yeah I heard you caught your bibs on fire welding when your thoughts went from work to phez hunting, gots to be careful.

I posted this a few months back. Picture of my water tank. Fits in reciever hitch, with two water faucets. Has 12volt oil pan heater that plugs into a 7 pin wirring harness connector. Holds about 18 gallons.

That looks pretty slick.

Right now (like most here probably) we're hunting out of a pickup with a 2 dog box crossover tool box. Water is usually carried in the 5 gallon insulated jug with the little spigot in the bottom. Throw in coolers and some luggage and things get to be a pain to access. Trying to come up with some ideas to simplify access to these items. Thinking about slide out drawers under the dog box, a box with storage on top, etc.
 
I just carry a chest type igloo cooler full of water. Open the lid, dogs drink, close it and move on. Water does not freeze or hasn't...

Homemade. Was bored and decided too make one to resolve lifting the 5 gallon jug (20) times a day. Gives me more room for more dogs!

I hear ya on the need for more room. Maybe we need to start a thread on hunting Rig Set-Ups. I'm sure we all could learn a few things from each other. I know I have perfected my set up over the years.

BRILLIANT!:thumbsup: Been doing basically the same thing with a couple plastic folgers cans, but I have had them freeze on me before. Best tip I've heard today! Thanks JMc.:10sign:
 
Walmart sells for less than $10 a blue plastic jug that holds about 8 gallons and has a spigot.

Thats what I was thinking. Just buy 2-5 gallon water coolers and be done with it. No need to rig and kind of contraption or anything.
 
The receiver hitch tank looks slick(nice craftsmanship,too) if you don't need the hitch for anything else.I have pondered for a long time that since the truck needs a bumper anyway,why not build one that holds water?

I'd be game on buying one like that if someone was to build them.
 
Here is what I did. I now have the same drawers in my new full size truck. I just had to redo the side pannels over the hose and pump area. It is a 10 gallon is all but it is insulated with thermax around it in the box. I would not push the issue with the pump though. It is 12 volt and is nice to spray off a dog crate, the back of the bed or birds. I used it all through Nov this year. Had I had a full size when I built it, I would have had a bigger tank. These tanks can be ordered on line millions of sizes. Food grade plastic, black for anti algea.
