I'm a Nebraska boy and want support them, but seems like they have hardly anything to do with upland hunting. Shells gear etc. Is it time to online order things or go to bass pro?

Waterfowl hunters have more toys to be bought, probably more money in that.

I have had good hunts with no more than a 40 year old gun and a pocket of shells, not much money to be made there.

This time of year they have other seasonal gear out and the upland gear is in the back. Closer to the season opener, more product will be out and in prominent display. Yes, our sport doesn't require as many gadgets and gizmos. That is a good thing to me. I have also found that as I get older, there is less there to interest me. I am more interested in puppies, boots, and places to put those boots.

And the physical ability to use it!!!!

Try Gander Mountain also. I am born and bred Nebraskan, tired of Cabelas leasing up ground in my home state. Kind of silly to tie up all the ground in certain areas so that the customers you sell items too can not hunt. Just my opinion.

Cabela's

I have been after them for years to send an upland catalog to no avail so far. I get MANY specialty catalogs from them I like to brows through.

if u dont order what u need or want from cabelas on line to ur home or to your local cabelas store the chance of them having what u need is very slim... they dont carry a good selection of ammo at least here in mn they wont even have a e collar section in the store for us to look at the product b4 we buy...??? for that matter alot of the stuff on line or in the nagazine wont be at the store???

if u want camping stuff or fishing gear go to cabelas to get over priced things... ive found small town runnings wal marts fleet farms and even hardware stores and gas stations to have a better selection of ammo and cheap orange hats vests and the like...

quick cabelas tale i have went to a cabelas in southern mn on my way out of state to turkey hunt i looked 1 yr for a new 3/4 face mask long story short they did not have that style a very common style they had 1 attached to a hat but didnt order ir carry them. went back this spring And for the hell of it looked and asked the guy working same exact story so u see why i dont expect much from cabelas... i joke all the time i want a job at cabelas ill order the ammo hunting vests e collars and all the new ammo out!!! our 3 cabelas in mn are all a joke except if u bow or archery hunt...

Have to agree, their ammo selection has been weak the last several years here. Fortunately we also have a Scheels and I can always find ammo there. In September, Scheels is opening a new 220,000 sqft store here and their inventory is going to be huge. There are some things I like about Cabelas, but I usually have better luck finding what I need at Scheels.

Don't know what you want for ammo you can't find--(unless it was some for those 50 yard plus shots you mentioned last year) --But all Cabelas I've been in (MN_WI_TX_MO_NEB_S. Dak) and several in each have had a very good selection of E-collar's in a department that Helen Keller lead by Ray Charles could find:rolleyes:

The Cabelas store in Billings, MT carries very little upland gear. I did buy my e-collar there but I prefer praise storm ammo and they've had little or no selection to choose from the last couple of seasons. I make a run across town and I could buy a case of the ammo I want throughout the upland season.

i throw on my shades and grab a walking stick next time i go to cabelas i mite get more help or find what i need that way...??? im sure me and mttailchaser are the only guys to feel cabelas selection is lame or lacking...

federal prairie storm steele shot or 3 inch praire storms u dont see up at my stores same with hevi shot loads and or federal heviweight turkey loads... all except the steele prairie storms i found at stores after i left cabelas that day with tons of selection...

they may get some of these loads once a yr and not order anymore till next yr that just dumb... the selection of upland vests turkey vest and pants are a joke ive been to all3 cabelas in mn and mitchell sd i think and only the mitchell sd store had more the 1 selection of vest on hand... the 1 vest they had of both turkey vest and upland were like 150$ + no even a cheap version to select 1 vest style 2 choose ftom thsts bad...

fleetfarm has same or better selection then cabelas up here in mn and cabelad is the worlds leading outfitter??? i was able to find a better sport dog e collar selection at menards that says alot...

I like Cabela's especially with their shipping prices, but as I have become more and more involved in Upland, the more and more I am looking elsewhere. They don't seem to have much for us.

Cabela's is great for the in store eye-candy, but not so great for non-branded gear. There are a lot of quality options for upland gear. I'm actually a big fan of the Pheasants Forever store for gear, plus it supports the cause so I don't mind the few extra bucks I pay. I always look there for stuff and then check other sites for the reviews. Kind of a gear-do though.

Doesn't matter. Most of the gear is made in China anyway. I try to buy USA when I can. So, shop anywhere you can, online, box store, hunting store.

I know they can't carry everything in store that they have in their catalog but they really need to expand their offerings a little.

I went to their store last night to look for a few things. First I wanted to check out some Irish Setter boots. I like my Red Wings so I thought I thought a pair of Wingshooters or Havocs might do. Not a single pair of Irish Setter boots in the place. Probably 20 different styles of Cabela branded stuff on the wall but no Irish Setters.

Over to the clothes. Wanted to look at some vest, specifically I wanted to compare the Cabela strap vest to the Filson. No Filson. Your choice of Cabela strap vest and Cabela traditional vest. Their website also showed a UA vest, didn't have that either.

The catalog also had a Cabela windbreaker with blaze. OK the trip won't be a total waste. Nope, didn't have it.

I'm not saying the Cabelas stuff is bad. I'd just like a choice. I walked in figuring I'd drop a couple, three hundred dollars. I walked out with a $5 whistle.

news to me

as some of you know I am kinda looking for rubber hunting boots for my trip to n. Dakota this nov. today, in cabela's bargain cave, they had some that might do, were on sale, had rows of them, tag said basically once you buy them, they are yours, can't return them. I asked two clerks about what if they leaked the first time I used them, both said, tough, cabela's would not back anything sold in the bargain cave. most stuff they stand behind pretty well, not in this case, still looking for boots, kinda p. o.

cheers

Put the boots on and to stand in the pond in one of their displays ;)

was too slow to think of that, the other thing, they were on sale in their cave but they are also on sale on line, on line they would have to stand behind them, don't get it. irritated none the less

cheers
