Blaze Orange

I hate that you can be seen by anyone. I am a very safe hunter and don't need it. Plus I think it is god awful ugly. Just frustrated that it's getting so hard to find any hunting clothing that does not have blaze on it.

If you ever hunt with other people, I think you're making a big mistake. That orange might be the difference in your losing an eye because someone forgot to stop his swing.

Even if you always hunt alone, there are others out in the field, or deer hunters on the road (even when and where they shoudn't be) that could shoot toward movement. Orange is no perfect protection from the other idiots out there, but it's a big step in that direction.

Good idea to be seen by everyone if you are pheasant hunting. The first time you walk into a small area and birds are flying every which way or when you are blocking a field when the walkers are getting to the end, you will be glad you had the blazing orange on. You may be a safe hunter, but everyone you hunt with may not be, as you will get shot by them easier than you will shoot yourself.

Ross you may not need it but there are a lot of us that do need it to see you. Even then there are many cases on file when a hunter in full blaze orange, pants, shirt and hat have been shot. Wear it and be thankful you are alive at the end of the day........Bob

The more blaze orange you have on the better. I hate when someone in our hunting party has either none or very little orange on. Makes them very difficult to see in the field. As far as I'm concerned only a fool would not want to wear orange while hunting.

This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Why not where blaze orange? You are far to vain if looks are more important than being safe. I am stuck hunting public land more than I like and the ability to see other people allows me to share share hunting spots with out affecting others. My goal is not to piss anyone off. But........ To not wear orange is stupid

Thank you guy's I wanted to use them words fool-stupid. But to be honest I didn't have the guts......Bob

I was concerned in using the word "fool" but I wanted to make my point. And I think Gatzby hit the nail on the head when he said.

I just hope Ross got our message. I don't think he will find to many on this site sympathetic to his side.

My best man and I met in college. Over the years we hunted together and it was always a chore because he was such a greenhorn and even after instruction and time in the field with me he just didn't get it. After too many busted hunts that came up short because of his antics, the final straw was one Saturday in the grouse woods. He showed up all in camo, then went pounding off half cocked in the brush flushing birds all over, got out in front of us and into a flight of woodcock my setter would have mopped up, with me yelling at him not to shoot because there were birds flying right back into us. My brother and I went 90* to the road with my dog on lead, waited for the idiot to come out and then I chewed him up one side and down the other. We play golf and do some other things together, but I will not hunt with him and even avoid the subject. Wearing camo in the grouse woods where there's lots of birds and someone is going to get shot. I want people I'm with to see me because I don't want to get shot, don't want any of my hunting partners to get shot and don't want my dog to get shot. I know 3 people who have been shot and my dad shot my dog 20 years ago. It's not fun and sorry if I offend anyone, but in my opinion to refuse to wear blaze for any reason is just plain stupid. I wonder if the guy Dick Cheney shot was wearing any blaze?

The more Blaze Orange the better.

I get tired of getting shot at since sometimes people don't use their brains to know where people are in the field or are undereducated on taking safe shots. To me it's common sense, but to some when the bird goes up in the air, their brain turns blank and they forget where other hunters are in the field.

Blaze Orange will help tremendously and the more the better, but watch out for newbie hunters that don't know what the meaning of a safe shot is. Blaze won't do anything for these types of hunters. The only thing to do in this case is learn to block on 1 knee.

I think I understand where ross is coming from. What I think he doesn't like about the blaze is, most the time you are wanting to get away from other folks..you know..being alone and unwinding. The Orange lets people from 100 of yards away see you. I know sometimes when your hunting where maybe a jerk land owner boarders it. you would just like to be left alone and not have the confrontation that's sure to come but the blaze makes you stick out like a sore thumb. I have to say, I always have orange on but there are times I would like to not have it on, so nosy people can mind there own business. Also, some lazy folks scout by looking for other hunters. Once they locate you. Then they start looking for where your parked. then if they figure out who you are. then the phone call, the waiting for you to come back to the truck, Etc. Then they either grab some buds and move in on you or tell everybody in the bar/town. where you were hunting and what you had.

Blaze is safe but there are times when you just a soon not be located.

Vest or Jacket and hat in blaze orange is the unwritten rule for us-I even put a blaze orange vest on my dog.

Well one of my reasons was mentioned. I do like to go unseen most of the time. If I am hunting in a large group I would always wear a blaze hat. I don't care what I look like in the field and i'm not a a "designer hunter". I do like nice hunting clothes and such. I don't see how someone can call me a "troll" for asking a simple question. I guess my point was that I would rather not have to wear it and I wish more clothes were made with other options than blaze.

I did have an instance last year where I was hunting someones land and a different land owner came flying over the hill running all the birds out becase he thought I was on his land. I did have blaze orange on then and he said thats how he spotted me.

Just my preference I would not where it all the time or just where a hat. To me if you have a hat on that is plenty. Not trying to start an arguement or be a troll as I have already been called.

.

Upland hunting and blaze orange go hand in hand. I would not hunt without it alone or not. You never know when there is another hunter with you or from another group that swings on a bird and that blaze orange may be the difference between you going home with a bird in the hand or you going home in a pine box.

Just think if that neighboring landowner had been a hunter and you had been without the orange on. He could have taken a shot on a bird and nailed you. Me? I like people to know where I am. If they want to poach on me then I can handle that too.
