I virtually don't drink but I do have Dos Equis. I have ban on drinking till the shooting is done. I'll have to wait to get to the bar in town for some insecured, "concealed carry citizen", to shoot me!

If my hunting buddy wants to have a beer or drink at lunch that would be fine with me, but, he wont be hunting with me the rest of the day. Just dont think it looks good with the number of anti's out there looking for any reason to make us hunters look bad.

Are we actually having a serious discussion about drinking and hunting? Seriously? Ultimately, thats what its about, drinking and hunting.. I dont care if its one beer, 2, or 4.

Ive been hunting 45 years, and never been in a situation that I had to decide whether to hunt with someone that had a beer for lunch.. I must have responsible hunting associates, I guess..

Im not anti drinking, in fact, Im having a cocktail right now. and Ill be one of the first to mix a cocktail at the cleaning table..

Heck, I dont even clean my gun if Ive had a drink....

I will not hunt with anyone that has consumed a drop. Booze and guns are a bad Idea. There is always time after the hunt to drink.

Some of you may have seen my post about the dove hunting shooting, this year, that involved, two of my very good hunting friends. Case and point, They had not been drinking and someone got shot. Safety, safety, safety.

My point exactly!!!!! Do you up the odds if someone has a beer at lunch!!! No!! There is no correlation with having one beer at lunch!!! Unsafe people are unsafe , whether they had one beer at lunch or Water!!!! People, I am not talking about Drunk ass hunters with gun!!!

I have to agree with most on this one, booze and guns don't mix. I generally hunt by myself, so this isn't a problem for me. When I do hunt with a group, it's usually with my family or my very close friends and it's never been a problem. When the guns are put away, then it's beer-thirty. Unsafe people will be unsafe, so why compound the problem? Besides, what are you there to do, hunt or drink? It's seems like a no brainer to me. What kind of an example does drinking at lunch or at anytime hunting set for young hunters...not a good one.

No alcohol until the guns are put away at the end of the day is our rule. After that we waste no time in breaking out the bourbon and passing it around while we are still at the field. Cuts the dust real good.

Personally, I don't want to hunt with anyone who drinks so much as the proverbial "one beer" before the guns are put away at the end of the day. A person who thinks it's OK to drink one beer and then handle guns is not someone I want to be around when s/he's got a loaded gun.

We hunt only on public ground, so, we usually eat in the truck on a way to a new spot. No time for drinking, anyways it will only slow us down.
We do enjoy some refreshing beverages afterwards.

I think I would be uneasy hunting with a large group, blockers etc
I wouldn't for sure be a part of a group that would drink before the hunt is over.

For me off solo, I don't have to many rules for myself. I don't stop for lunch or stop for beer. I'm not losing my edge.

BOY! after the hunt it's several beers while cleaning birds, cooking up birds then it's sack time.

I agree that it can set a bad example, but I'm sorry but a beer with lunch is no more dangerous than one before the drive home.

Beer okay..Hard booze NOT.

I have had several beers during lunch breaks and in field stops. We made a rule no hard booze until after the hunt. This seems to work for us.

Hmmm - I wonder why shooting ranges/clubs have a rule against using alcohol on the range. Seems to be a good rule.

I won't hunt with a person that drinks beer at noon; I have no idea how the chemical affects the mood or judgement of someone else; it is, a mood- altering chemical. Perhaps err on the side of safe?

I'm surprised at some of the messages posted...

I am surprised how many people are whimps. Grow some hair on your chest man. A few beers is not going to hurt anyone. What is next. If you eat a burger with cheese on it, I will not hunt with you. I can see that hunting group breaking up real soon. It only takes one idiot to screw it up for the rest of the party.

I carry a portable breathalyzer with me and make each person I hunt with take a blow first thing in the morning (you never know about those hangover drunks) and then after each field because some guys have been known to take a nip or two when walking.

It's not a matter of "manning up" or chest hair! It's a matter of common sense. You see nothing wrong with "a few beers at lunch". Well, I do and I'm sure there are plenty of others on this site that do also. If you and your hunting buddys all feel the same, then I guess no one will tell you any different. I just hope none of you ever has an accident because of it that you will later regret. But drinking and guns don't mix and you will never have a place in my hunting group.

What does drinking have to do with being a man? So if I don't drink a beer at lunch or much otherwise I am somehow less of a man. Wow just when you thought you had read the stupidest thing on here someone goes and tops it.

Beer @ lunch.

No alcohol of any kind till done gunning / hunting for the day.
NO exceptions. Will not hunt with anyone that does that.
It's common sense, period.

Had the "pleasure" of making a trip with a group that couldn't stop with one.
Never again. Too many times you hear "Just one more can't hurt".

I don't damn any who must have their beer. I simply will take myself somewhere else. It's my right & my opinion.
