Anyone Going for Spring Turkey?

Nice bird Wildcat. I went out for one today in MN but no such luck. Heard a few gobble a ways off but it was on private property and they didnt want to budge.

I have to admit... that wasn't my bird, but rather my buddy's Tom. I struck out this week.

But I can assuredly confirm that the long beards just aren't interested in the calls quite yet. They'll gobble at a nice yelp or a series of clucks and a yelp, but that's about it, at least around here. I think maybe tomorrow or Saturday they'll be fully turned on. In my opinion, I think they got started late due to inclement weather. But again, that's just my observations from these parts. It could be the same for most in the Midwest though.

Good luck to everyone else still chasing those thunder chickens. Keep us updated! :)

how is this freak storm going to affect the birds this weekend we are having a blizzasrd

Is it seriously snowing out there?!? If so, it'll probably push them back in the woods for a few days. It's pretty much up to the hens. If they're still hot, then it's on regardless.

It's raining here on the East end of Kansas, supposed to be off-and-on most of the day.

hell yea its snowing blizzard conditions interstate closed and no school i guess i am going to the crick in the morning then to find a tom

I was going to call you here shortly Joe and ask how you did. At least you know where the long beards are now. Just set up on their warpath and ambush the bastards!

took a buddy out this morning, he smacked his first archery gobbler at about 7 30 am, stayed put and i was goin for my 2nd tag, couldnt close the deal but we were covered up in birds all morning. it was a pretty fun hunt, almost got a shot a biggin but never did.

I had gobblers all around me responding to the call i was in amazement but guess who failed miserably at it this morninng me go figure but i am almost addicted if i could seal the deal i woould be

... having trouble putting together the "right place at the right time" here :p
The grandson was out all weekend. Burned up about a fi'tty spot in fuel and a few miles off the boot soles.
Managed to call in a hen all by herself and caught 4 jakes crossing on some "private" that we couldn't hunt.
Monday morning (back to school) just after daylight, caught these "in my driveway"..

Then went and cut a load of firewood, and on the way out of the woods, had a nice Tom with a half dozen hens, gobbling and strutting within 50 feet of my truck window.. :( and "no camera"..

Been dealing with pressured toms and active hens for the last week here. Not sure what keeps me going back in the morning, must be a mental defect I have! Good luck hunting all!

This years Tom came in silent. Poor little fella had a bad day.:D
