2nd weekend...

This morning the boys were eating breakfast, readying themselves for school. The weatherman came on and said, "folks across much of KS can expect snow this w/e....", as my wife is in the other room. She said, "I walked back in the front room and neither of them are eating or getting dressed, they stopped to talk about bird hunting b/c the weatherman said something about snow....they are definitely your kids!":D

So we'll be waking up several hours before the sun and heading west, hopefully with snow hitting the windshield the entire way:thumbsup:

Surely the pressure will have subsided a bit...

How many UPHr's will be out this weekend?

Still smarting from last weekends skunking. It's gonna be a week or three before I get back out west. I may run up to NW MO, or maybe even Eckman's this weekend. Dog's need to see some birds!

My best friend is coming up for his 1st duck hunt ever so we'll be chasing ducks. My private ground out by Randolph is still standing milo. Farmer said they were going to try to get it all out by Friday. They've seen some birds so hopefully this year will be good. Last year they had 4 coveys and some roosters. Would love to be upland hunting but my buddies who have the dogs are busy.

Great luck getting to hunt in snow. You should at least double your shooting opportunities. Have a great hunt.

Maybe sunday i will be heading out west as you know..saturday i have to work part of the day then going to look at a new pup for the wife as her first hunting dog

Good Luck my, friend. you guys are going to have a blast!! The way this weather system is setting up, ,if your going nc, you might see a real nice snow.
Birds be tight ,walk slow.

Be careful,

We'll be at it again.

My buddy's father-in-law (who has both the colostomy and urostomy bags) is so excited he's building and modifying a couple of guns for use, including having a spare weapon. He said he'll walk one, maybe two patches, but he's ready to block.

My recently retired father is literally trying to draw up plans for assignments for everyone. Looks like they might be serious about the weather as the streets/roads folks were out brining the roads.

Good luck to everyone heading out and stay safe!

Thank you! We will not be in NC the first day, but may hunt there on our way back Sunday. I'll be sure to post a report as soon as I'm able.

Anyone sees a white F150 with a black grill guard and racing-striped, fake hood-scoop with a rooster head poking out the side of the hood, flag me down:D

Good luck to all:cheers:

Debating on where I want to go Sunday. Kind of wanting to quail hunt but I know with the snow the phez will be sitting tight and also there are the first flights of mallards in the area now too.

I need to get out, but Indy is a little cut up, but some short hunts after bandaging and taping thing up......

Going to stay around here.

Good luck KB, I hope you and the boys see more birds than I have so far.

Good things come to those that wait:)

Was talking to a guy in SD that said he had two guy's hunting a tree belt by his house today that had like 3-400 birds in it........ I might know where that is at;)

I wish I could get out this weekend for awhile, I wasted my pass hunting ducks on Wed morning. Man were the Mallards thick:thumbsup:. Kids birthday party and our traditional two week early thanksgiving dinner so I am out.

Good luck KB and others who are lucky enough to get out.

I haven't scouted ducks in a couple weeks, and that was grim. Glad to hear they're moving in. This cold should really help.

KB,

Look for a few of these-

I was down at a buddy's place in Urich Mo. We had groups of 10-40 banging the decoys in that heavy wind. Mostly Mallards. It was pretty cool. He had the same experience this morning, unfortunately I had to work.

But where do I find them Maynard?:D

I spect I'll see a covey or 2 in my travels this weekend;) Hopefully my shooting percentage will be better than it was on the first covey of the season. It took almost 10 shots to get my 2 bird "limit" for the day:eek:

I think those are taxidermy quail he took out of his house and put outside. The old trick is to take taxidermy birds out in the cold weather cause it kills of any bugs. Then take pictures of them and say "hey look what showed up" Ha ha!!!

I totally agree duck! It looks like they have been photoshopped into the picture, because there are two different sets doing almost the identical "pose." All it takes is a little time to clone stamp these taxidermy birds into the background! :D

Love the picture as I've yet to see any quail. Maybe tomorrow?
