I took a friend out again Saturday. On the opening day he never got a shot and was a little upset that he had never even fired his shotgun. 20 minutes into the field, Molly scents a bird and trails it to right in front of my friend. She locks up. I call point, the rooster flushes towards him....pause....I say "Take him".......pause..........He says "I am"as the bird flies overhead...........Long pause...............Bang Bang. He looks at me and sheepishly says that he couldn't get the safety off and then shot behind the bird. I know it did not take as long as it seemed, but it seemed to take 30 seconds from the flush to the shot. Molly put up another bird for him and he never fired. She started staying close to me the rest of the hunt!!
